Default Power steering pump

Hi guys, I bought my 75 a few months ago it had not run is 25 years. I rebuilt the suspention and removed the original 350 and replaced it with a 383 stroker. Im keeping the original engine for future rebuild. I have the new engine installed in the car and Im putting back the alt and power steering pump and it appears that the bracket for the alt in so close to the power steering pump reservor that its impossible to remove the cap to fill the power steering pump. is this correct? Also I would like to ask those of you that have headers. How do you mount the A/C compressor? is there a bracket I can buy or do I need to modify my original bracket?

Thanks

Yes the brackets are so close it is very difficult to get the power steering cap off. In many cases it is easier to simply loosen the alternator ad reposition it so you have better access to the cap. Repositioning and tightening the alternator belt is a lot easier than dealing with the power steering pump bracket and belt tension. There is a bracket for for the A/C compressor with headers. Summit Racing has all the brackets to need. Simple search or call their tech support line.

Change PS belt to slightly longer- for a cross reference Gates 7365.

sincity,

Yes, difficulty in removing the PS cap is standard in C3s. I got so tired of loosening the PS pump and swinging it in to the crankshaft in order to remove the cap that I bought a billet alternator bracket from Summit that I thought would do the job. After fitting it, I still had to grind a bit off the bottom of the billet bracket to get the PS cap off. However, it's not readily visible, so I don't worry about it.

Alan Grove Components Inc. of Louisburg KS make an AC mount for the SBC, short water pump, #113R that has spacers to work with headers. The product is well made but spaces the AC pump a little further away from the engine than I'd like in a Corvette. It's probably fine on a Camaro, sedan, truck, etc. Not saying it won't fit, but I'm going to be taking a lot of measurements before I slam the hood.

Plus, the header bracket covers the front header pipe and in my mind, detracts from the look of the headers. But to each his own.

Regards from Down Under.
