Default 327 ?s

i just bought this corvette its an original california car that hasnt been driven since 1972 the owner pulled the engine to put a 427 but never got around to it and it sat in the garage the engine has 60,000 miles on it.
do i need to rebuild it or should i just refill it with fluids and try to start it?
how many miles do these engines normally last?

Depends on how it was abused. It should last well past 60,000. I'd be cautious on how it was stored and was it was pulled. Did he plugged everything like the intake up so nothing fell in or crawled inside the engine?

Before I went ot the trouble of installing, I'd take advantage of it being out of the car to replace gaskets. Want to pull the plugs and lubricate the cylinders. Take the plugs out and turn it over with a breaker bar to see if it is frozen. I'd go ahead and check the compression while I was at it.

I'd fire it up once I prepped it before I put it in the car just so I didn't waste my time.

I wonder what year the car is?

It matters because if its a '68 the engine could be the original and been there since 1968. If its any other year we don't know what its out of or where it came from or has been through.

If I am understanding your post correctly, the 327 in question has been sitting since 1972. If it is within your means, I would at least tear it down far enough for all new gaskets and seals. A gasket and seal kit is pretty cheap, all you'd really need is an engine stand, a few tools, and a place to do it.

Hate to pop your bubble, BUT, if you are planing on making some money on this project, well don't. Not saying it can't be done, if you purchased it at a really good price, but it's rare. Good luck with the project.

Hi, nice find. Couple of quick observations. You indicated you are a senior in HS? Others may agree this looks like a big project to be completed in one year before college. For a car driven only 4 years it "appears" to have had a rough ride (wheel flares, repaint).
In regards to the engine, as others said, pull the plugs and soak it a bit. Can you turn it by hand? how is the frame? Do you have all the missing parts? more pictures would give us a better idea.

Good luck and keep us posted!
