I have extra fuel pressure, better ignition, headers, lowered a little and better cooling. Mine runs far better than stock and still spins tires and all that stuff that makes the flashing light people chase you. Fix your problems and you will be surprised how it runs. Your upper manifold plate needs a new seal, the throttle bodies need to be resealed and your TPS needs to be reset. Fix all the vacuum leaks too.
Will it out run a new one? No
Will it out run the little sewing machine motor cars? Not always.
Is it fun to drive? You bet your sweet a$$ it is.

Are you still running a stock intake? And what about your rear end ratio?? I have the 2.87 and thought about changing it to a 3.55...
you can make up to 400 hp with the cross-fire .i would think on the street that would be plenty.if you want to make easy hp the carb would be the way to do it . if you want to work with what you have that can be done to.300 hp is easy to get just by changing cam and heads and porting out the intake with a good exhaust .over that you have to bore out the throttle bodys and change the computer.race car go carb .a nice street car with good mpg the cross-fire is fine .before i get beat up ,,,,,i have done some of these mods and i know of others that have done all of them.my thick skin flame suit is on.
Are you still using the stock intake and computer?
i still have the factory computer.it does fine untill you start getting over 300 hp.then it is to slow.the intake is gasket matched and ported out .the egr extention has been cut out.3.55 gears is a great upgrade .open up the cat and improve the exhaust .do one improvement at a time so that you will know which one did the best for you.if you have the money ,do a dyno of what you have now, then do a dyno of what you have .its great for the naysayers.
In 1982 I had a 69 Mustang Fastback with a 302 4bbl motor. My friend purchased a brand new Z-28 that had the Crossfire on a 305 motor and it was as fast as my stang although the hp ratings were about 100hp different. This was confirmed many times on various roads. I know the way they rated horsepower has changed alot since the 70's. I dont beat on my current 82 Vette which is stock except for the exhaust but I do get on it from time to time and it allways puts a smile on my face. CFI isnt as bad as people think. My brother in-law was a mechanic at a Chevy dealership in the 80's and believes CFI is easier to work on than a carburater.
a few years ago Corvette Fever didi an article called, "Caught in the Crossfire". It was about hopping up an 82 Vette and retaining the stock appearance. They were suppose to do a follow up story about the performance gains, but I have never been able to find it. Has anybody read the final report?

I think the crossfire powerplant is best suited as a daily driver for most practical purposes. If you are lucky enough to have one, enjoy the driveability of it. Don't waste your weekends grinding your knuckles trying to squeeze a horse here or there, get out and cruise the town. I am getting 18 mpg city, 28 highway just cruising, that means more driving time for the money then most sports cars. The powerband is all over the lower rpms...right were you can use it the most cruising the local dives. It's a crowd pleaser doing burnouts, donuts, & figure 8's with ease showing off in parking lots, or tearing up your @$$h.le neighbors lawn. And, at the end of the day, you hardly have to wrench on it. That is why people love the crossfire. There is a lot more fun to have in a Vette then you can get with just a time slip at the local drag strip.
