Default Shifter Console replacement

I am in the process of replacing my Shifter Console. I have the old one out and have a few questions. I won't be using it but, I can't figure out how to remove the cigarette lighter from the old console. I am also replacing the shifter boot, I got the button out but can't get the **** off, the old boot was split so I was able to lift the console past it. The boot I got as a replacement says it is for 77-81 AT or 4speed but it seems way to small to fit over the opening in the console this has me confused. Any help would be appreciated. BTW my Corvette is a '79.

Grip harder on the ****, it's threaded on to the stick.

Someone probably really cranked on it. Maybe try heating it up a little bit with a hair dryer?

As for the cig lighter, the inner piece (inside where the lighter itself would go) threads into the outer shell. Hold the inner piece with your fingers (think of your fingers as an internal 2 jaw puller) and then unscrew the outer shell from underneath bezel.

Thanks that did the trick on the cig lighter. I used a rag wrapped around the Shifter **** and a small Pipe Wrench to free it up.

Here is a pic of the old and new Shifter Boots. The new one says "Upper" on the box not sure if that is the reason it don't fit.

Definetly look like different sizes. Where did you get the replacement? Are you sure you have ordered the correct one? Have you talked to the supplier, in case they have made an error?

I got it from Eckler's about 3 months ago. The box says it is the correct one. A little history I had a problem with my AC control assembly and ordered a new one from Willcox back in September. Well it got cool so I didn't install it (didn't need the AC). I picked up the Shifter Console and Boot at Eckler's when I was in the area. Well it started warming up and I decided it was time to install the parts. I ordered a new Shift Boot from Willcox a few hours ago I called them and made sure it was the right one . Now I will just have to wait until next week to finish the install.

TY for the order... and a heads up to you... You'll swear the boot will not fit the console but it will. When you get the new boot, work it over the lip and around as good as you can. Then use a pick or an awe from the top side to the back (if you go back to top you run the risk of pricking the boot with the awe) and you'll be able to get the holes to line up... it's tight but you'll get them.

The boot in the picture looks like one for a 68-76
