I have a mostly numbers matching 1970 350/350 that I purchased three years ago. I have removed the body completed the mechanicals and have it back in driving condition. One thing that has bothered me is the alternator, on the car is a 1100899 42 amp with a date code of 9J26. It looks like it was made in 69 with the extended aluminum fins on the housing cover. My guess is that I should have a 1100900 42 amp with a build date around March/April for a June assembled car. I looked at the Delco Remy web site and it shows the 1100899 was replaced by 1100900. So my questions are, could this have been original equipment or a replacement? If it is a replacement, what was the intended application for the 1100899?
As I've discovered, if you can find a suitable 1100900 they are expensive and I don't want to replace a good working original part for just a set of different numbers.
There's no evidence I've seen that an 899 was installed on any C3, the September 26 1969 date on your would be far too early for a June car in any case.
1100900 is the correct alternator for 350 and 390 HP 1970 cars without AC, or 901 for base engine without A/C.

Mike,
Thanks and I suspect you are correct. I was also hoping to discover what the original application was for the 1100899. If it was intended for a collectable car then it might have some decent value I can use to offset the purchase of a correct alternator. Do you know if such a registry exists? My 899 looks good and runs well, I know it's been on the car for at least 20 years.
