Took door panel off yesterday and thought we would see if we could figure out why the door locks do not work. They're 33 years old, sooooo
Where should I start, replace it all? Is there one part of the whole door locking mechanism that I should start with?
I want the car to lock! It makes me nervous when I take it somewhere I want to leave a vicious dog tied to it
Thanks in advance for your help guys!
P.s. I have my AIM and Chilton
On my '79, the lock rod was completely fused with rust at the rotating joint. It is a pretty simple arrangement in there, not difficult to remove and service. Soaking mine in liquid wrench and working it, freed it up.
yeah, on my 79, I too needed to shoot some oil on the lock actuator. I'd check to make sure you're getting power to both sides, and don't forget to check the ground, it's on the passenger door, bolted to the door near the front.
Awesome mine do no work either by I am not ready to deal with that yet. Very glad I opened this thread so I know where to start when I pull the panels to work on the locks. Learn something new about these cars everyday on this forum thanks to the consistently helpful members
Thanks found it yesterday. Saw the post that someone had about door locks on a 68. The reply gave instructions on how to give auto door locks and keyless entry with some pretty good detailed instructions. I would love to put an alarm on my car and being able to have keyless entry is awesome...not original but I really like the idea!
