Ontopic: If possible, post a picture on the numbers. Is the hood aftermarket? The numbers you are asking about could mean just about everything. Perhaps the numbers are used for alignment? No idea

I saw this on VIN 900003 and those numbers were "2" and "5." I did not check at the time to confirm, but now suspect (after going back to the photos) it may have been a reference to striker shims at the top of the hood. I have those photos if OP is not able to post. This has been the only time I've seen these marks on a hood.
BTW, checking my 78, I've got 2 shims on one side and 5 on the other.
