I just had the same issue with a $2.50 part. I think shipping was around $10. I even talked to them because I figured that it was a computer thing that just set the price without knowing that it was going to cost less than $1 to mail it. The response was that they are in line with the other distributors and that they had to pay an employee to pull the item, package it, the cost of the packaging, etc and that I should wait to order until I needed more things to help cut my costs.

Frankly, I think this is a bunch of BS. I don't go to O'Reilly's and get told the price is going to be $5 but now I will also need to pay a fee to compensate them for unloading the box of parts off of the delivery truck and an employee for opening the box and another to stock the shelves and another to walk to the shelf and remove the item for me, etc.

Let's face the facts, they already charge more for parts than just driving down to the local auto parts for an alternator, brakes or whatever. The cost of the overhead has already been figured into the prices that they charge, just like it is at your local shops. My response to them was that I wouldn't wait until I needed more parts because I needed this one now (found it locally for pennies) and when I need more parts I definitely will not be back. There are some venders that charge more realistic shipping/ handling fees. I will use them.

If the part had been $7 or $8 and they charged me $2-3 to ship it I would have paid and been ok with it. I just don't like the business practice so I am stubborn and refuse to do business with them. I'm waiting for them to start charging a fee to log into their sites online and look at their products.

There my rant is over!
That is not correct, but I understand the feelings. We feel the shipping is too expensive also, but there is nothing we can do about it.
The cheapest you can ship anything UPS is about $7.50. We do not charge any handling fees, we also pay for the box that the part goes into which is getting more expensive all the time. The average price for a box now is about 4.00 and some of the larger box's are 8-10 dollars per box. UPS hits us all the time with increases here and there. I have never seen the price ever go down, even when fuel prices dropped. So what can we do about it, really nothing, we have looked into. UPS is about the only company that can deliver what we ask them, and that is to get your package to you in a acceptable time frame. We have looked into FedEx, however there are some downsides with them, and other than FedEx and UPS, there is nobody else. I was hoping that DHL was going to work out, but we know how that turned out. We are right there with you on the high shipping charges, I wish there was something we could do.

I like UPS the best because of their tracking. Protects both buyer and seller.

Shipping prices seem about right to me.

Think of the pluses.

1. Convenience
2. No sales tax (usually offsets shipping).
3. Christmas all over again each time a box arrives.

I posted something like this a couple weeks ago. Window repair kits from Corvette Central and the small window fuzzies the entire order would fit into your hand. the bill was just over $200, the shipping was $25. The order would fit into an envelope.
Making it up on a big order later doesn't do anything for me. If that's part of the profit needed just raise the price.
I have shipped a head from Oh to Tx for that amount. So I didn't buy it from them. Going to order it from another vendor that has reasonable shipping.

Just to clarify for anyone reading, You weren't the vender that I was talking about. That said, I stand by my statement. The vender flat out told me that they charge handling fees above the postage fees. These cover employee cost for pulling and shipping items purchased.

If your company doesn't do that, then you will go on my approved venders list! Shipping fees are what they are and there is nothing that you can do about that and I understand that. Your company evidently operates how most of us believe a company should operate.

I thought I was the only one getting killed on shipping. I tried ordering a set of forum discounted door handles and gaskets with the 10% discount using the discount code and that came out to $36.17 with the discount. Shipping alone was $26.45 which brought the total to $62.62....ended up buying from a forum member.

I don't blame Willcox, I only blame my geographic location.

This is one reason I would like to move back to the mainland.....one of the FEW reasons.
The main reason above all else is Chipotle! I love that place, but I digress.

I like O'reilley's because I can pretty much get parts off the shelf for what they would cost if I were to have them shipped out here. Example, I bought Edelbrock 4249 Valve Covers for around $130. Normal price for them is about $80 and up +shipping.

I like shopping ebay for name brand parts, but I don't like it at the same time because there are a ton of people/companies that don't ship to Hawaii.

Flying in the USA is Absolutely Ridiculous.

I can tell you coming from another country that it seems like you guys have gone backwards about 40 years.

They sell a fare. Then charge to check your bag. WTF ???
So... Everyone is cramming their bags into the cabin.
No one can move and it's a safety nightmare.
Seems to take an extra half hour to board a plane compared to any other country on the planet.

For goodness sake, just include the bag checking fee into the fare and watch the airline industry move forward into 2012.

It's simply unbelievable from an outside view.
