Default BB valve cover question

I want to dress up my engine compartment. Among other things, I want to refresh my valve covers, and since I want to preserve the original covers, I'm looking for replacements.*

I have not found any chromed covers with drippers that do not have the power brake cutout - except for the very expensive "replacements". *So, two questions come to mind:
- does anybody know a source for the covers I am looking for?
- are droppers critical for this engine?

So you don't want the power brake "dent" then?
I think the chrome ones on mine don't have the dent but do have drippers.

I can't double check right now since my paper mache hasn't dried yet so I can't open the hood, but I'm pretty sure they don't have the dent.
I'll be changing them over to the cast aluminum ones I bought but that's a job when the car is back on it's wheels (a little awkward) when it's up on these stands.

CFR performance. They are cheaper than cast aluminum, but seem to hold up well with iron heads. Alan referred me to these, I currently have a set of the tall OEM chrome. They have the recessed corner and some without. Just look closely at the descriptions. Mine do not have the drippers.

http://www.cfrperformance.com/Chevy_...overs_s/43.htm

I also have the original OEM valve covers with drippers, and no recess corner. They need to be refinished though. For sale if yer interested.

I have a pair of very good condition "originals" with the correct drippers, BUT I don't recall if they are power or non power. I'll have to get into the attic over the weekend............... & get back at ya !!

JMO, but if you're running stock rocker arms, go with the drippers. Chevy put them there to direct oil to the rocker fulcrums to keep from scuffing the rocker ***** and arms. I'm quite sure that the engineers wouldn't have taken the effort or extra expense if they didn't deem them necessary. Making things worse is the lack of ZDTP additive in modern motor oils. This additive was included to maintain the oil film under high pressure and loads but has been removed from modern formulations to prevent poisoning of catalytic converters in today's cars.

I was able to find stock appearing rocker covers with drippers and the power brake booster dent from Noah Performance in Long Island, NY but they are available other places. The new covers look almost identical to my originals except the chrome plating is 10X better looking! The originals are only flash chromed.

If you're running roller rockers and want to be a bit stealthy, get the stock appearing covers that are slightly taller. Drippers won't matter then.

Incidentally, my '68 did not originally have power brakes but the original LH rocker cover still has the PB booster dent. If you're concerned about originality and your car doesn't have power brakes it is still OK if your LH rocker has the dent. I installed PB's in my '68 when I restored it.

Thanks!! That's for the information on the drippers. I've seen a number of folks with BB's that have valve covers on without the drippers -- but I wasnt very comfortable with that thought. By the way, I am using Brad Penn 15w-40 (with plenty of zinc). The flash chrome on my covers doesnt have much flash anymore, which is why I'm looking to change them out.

I googled Noah Performance, and while it turned them up, it didnt find a web page for them. It did turn up New York Resto Mod that PRNDL noted in the next post.

Thanks for the info.

Wild! They sure look the same, but the more expensive ones are specifically listed as Corvette valve covers while the other ones specifically say, Will not fit corvette or cars with power brakes. I understand the power brakes (no indent) but I wonder why they won't fit corvettes and really wonder if the 2 are different. One sure way to find out, but I am not going to order 1 set from each vendor.

I already have 2 sets of chrome valve covers in my garage (1 with drippers, one without, been on my to-do list for 5 years)
