I might come pretty close to killing someone if I had to deal with that kind of crap.

If this was the case, I'd be driving it whenever I wanted and running from the law on a regular basis. Screw 'em.

If that law was in effect here the forum would have about 6 members.

Wow, I've seen just about everything now. Big brother in Australia is really off their rocker. The law is so ridiculous that it makes no sense at all.

That gov't agency is wrong-wrong-wrong on so many levels.

I hope the owner of that car can find a workable solution so he can enjoy a simple drive without the paint ***** chasing him down and impounding his ride for something totally stupid.

I thought things were bad here. Seems they're even worse over on the West Island. (NZ-Aussie in-joke!)

If that paint job is a "crime" I guess the Aussie gov't really thinks they live in a "perfect" world.

The lady in the video said "what we're trying to do here in south Australia is preserve the historic authenticity of the car" or something very close to that. What a load of bureaucratic double speak. The thing about bureaucrats is they actually expect people will/should believe whatever crap that comes out of their mouths. Honestly, this entire load of political manure would be easier to swallow if those making these rediculous laws would say something like "we hate pollution spewing classic cars for a myriad of reasons and are working tirelessly and will do everything in our power, both above table and below, to leglistlate them out of existance".

Something tells me that if the owner had the car painted to the exact specification dictated by GM the Australian governement would think of some other rediculous reason to deny the owner's desire to own/operate his car.

I suppose I'd get some white vinyl covers for the stripes and give the whole thing another try. However, we all know how that would end.

Aussies are great at shifting goalposts! (sorry John!) Someone should send the guy some documentation to show that they could be bought in primer.

i have seen this car in person, and frankly it's pretty bad paint wise
paint is faded, crazed all over with large cracks showing
interior is split and torn
the singer may have been somebody of noteworthy over there, but nobodys knows her over here
so the stripes mean nothing to us historically

for historic lhd rego here in south australia my '72 has to appear stock (we drive rhd cars over here on the lh side of the road )
ie; no mag wheels - std rally only
stock steering wheel - no aftermarket smaller/thicker
no flashy chrome over the engine, braided hoses - rocker covers (except if that perticular year came with them)
no extractors/headers, original make carby and ci manifold, no wild engines
basically as close to stock when it left the factory
different states here have different rules

for all of this rego is only $125yr which gives me 90 days in a log book to go anywhere i like
historic insurance is $285yr for value of $48k

yes there are a few draw backs, but i can mod to the hilt if i put it on full rego @ $1100+yr

here is the pdf form we have to follow, click 'left hand drive vehicles' at top of list
http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/site_...&sa.x=0&sa.y=0
if he had followed the form, he would have had no trouble getting registration

although the paint rule has been changed now to 'spirit of the era'

Heaps easier in Melbourne without this sort of crazy bureaucratic interference. But then Adelaide is half an hour (and 10 years) behind the eastern states. ))))))

But seriously, how do they know in South Australia exactly what was stock configuration on a 45 year old American car? Do they make sure you have AIR (if you are supposed to?) Do they know if the wiper can is supposed to be coffee can style or pie pan style? The poor guy with the Ford said they refused to believe his car was factory production. What do they know?
