If you are having it painted somewhere, you may want to also take it by there before sealing the deal. Primer can hide some issues that you may not see, especially if you are going with a color like black.
If you're interested in a non-original motor, automatic 73 it's worth checking out.
Why would anyone want an automatic trans Vette unless they had a physical impairment?
Or couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time to learn to drive a manual gearbox?
To answer the Op's question, nope I wouldn't buy it.
Carfax on a '73? Did something change where Carfax is now taking VINs older than 1981?
It's a 1973 for UNDER $4k. It's a complete 1973 than moves under its own power for under $4K. If it has a solid structure and clear title (perfect restoration project), why would anyone care about its past?
Who cares about the seller, if the car has a clear title, and the frame and birdcage check out, then this car really is a bargain. Just so you know, the frames on these cars are worth like $1500 as is. You could part the car and make your money back on the car if something were to happen
Hey corvette community! I'm a new member looking to get in to the addiction that is owning a corvette. I'm looking for a project car/hobby with minimal work needing to be done to the fiberglass. (painting is fine and minor work is ok.) Not worried about engine or transmission work as I'll be pulling both and rebuilding with my father. Anyways, I have found a local car that may be a good match but being new to the scene I wanted your opinion. http://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/2886482806.html That is the link for the ad. I have emailed the gentlemen and he has assured me that the cars engine and tranny are both strong and run well. Engine is a 350 crate motor although I'm unsure of the exact engine. Also he assured me that the frame is straight and free of rust. Obviously I have to take this with a grain of salt and I would inspect the vehicle thoroughly before the purchase. Just curious if you think this is a decent deal. Also talked on price and he'd be willing to accept $3750. Thanks for the feedback!
That is just not enough info. If he is close to you go check it out. If he is far away, let it go or demand more, many more pictures. Not me.
Well fellas, the trip was a flop. The so called "rust free" frame was anything but that. Also looked as though the windows had been left down and water had entered the cab. The carpet and seats were ruined but that's easily fixed. The problem was the floor boards would also need to be completely replaced. On a plus side the bird cage had surprisingly little rust! But that was not enough to outweigh the flaws of the car. Anywho, I appreciate all the input I received on the ad as a new member. Still looking to become an official member (actually own a vette haha) so I'll keep searching. Thanks again all!
a non rusted out '73 for 3700 would be one of those 'too good to be true' deals anyway. Those deals happen once a lifetime. and you beating the next buyer to the deal is another once in a lifetime.. Sure it happens on estate sales, and word of mouth sales.. not on craigslist...
...You heard it here folks! Apparently everyone who owns a Vette with an automatic transmission is either physically handicapped or mildly retarded!...
I own two Corvettes with automatic transmissions and owned a third. I am neither handicapped nor retarded.

That's too bad. Worth checking out because ya never know.
but...but...then why would you own an automatic? It's just don't make no sense?
OK - lets expound that logic.
According to your profile, you live in northern Indiana? Am I correct in assuming that you get snow there? Am I also correct that after it snows, salt is placed on the roads? Am I once again correct in assuming that when salt or snow is on the roads, you do not drive your Corvette? And that this condition of not being able to drive your Corvette persists for many months in a year?
So I ask you, why would anyone in their right mind own a car they could not drive for a large portion of the year?
