Default 82 cooling system??

I'be been driving my 82 here lately and have noticed a couple things on the cooling system. First just to let you know I replaced the cooling temp sensor and on the one for the gauge, thermostat and flushed the system. The aux. fan will come on at a low temp 190ish and I've read where they are not suppose to come on until 230 or so. Now I did apply pipe sealer to the threads so could that be screwing it up?? Also I do have heat but if I run the fan on high it will cool down, put it back to low fan speed and it warms back up?? Now when I replaced the thermostat I had a hard time to get the housing to seal because of the intake and now I see a little coolant coming from the back side of the housing. Would this be letting the pressure escape thus not allowing to get fully hot??

That smal leak wouldnt be the problem. Are you sure you got all the air out of the system?

My guess is that you installed the temp gauge sensor on the passenger's side. Electric fan is now coming on at 190 degrees.

Two different sensors.

I installed the temp sensor in the front of the block and the gauge sensor on the drivers side between # 1 & #3 cylinder.

The temp sensor for the fan is on the passenger side towards rear of the head.

Oh heck, which one did I replace then?? In the front of the block right below the intake. I thought the sensor on the pass. side was the knock sensor??

View A. Fan switch is between cylinders 6 and 8 on the passenger's side.

Engine temperature sensor is on the driver's side between cylinders 1 and 3.

So actually that switch could be bad causing the fan come on prematurally and lowering the cars temp and making it more rich???

Its the CTS....communicates with the ECM. Has nothing to do with the fan.

you can buy lower temp sensors and you can put on a manual switch

I'm kinda thinking that it must have the lower temp switch in it if it's kicking on at that temp. But it would be fighting itself since I replaced the stat with a 195 deg... It does have a two prong wire tab though. Not for sure what was original....

Or you can just let the system work as designed, for the fan to come on around 228* and off around 215* unless you're going over 35mph in which case it will not cycle the fan at all.

That is my advise as a C3/C4 owner and someone who can appreciate the way these cars were designed to work.

My .02 cents

I agree but so far I can't find the correct fan switch.
