Good job!!! I don't remember how long it took me exactly but it was less than a full day. I found myself getting careless as I was nearing the final bonds. Then I trashed the drivers side fender edge with the 5 in 1 knife. I didn't plan to reuse the clip (70-72 clip and car is a 69) but didn't want to screw it up either. Live and learn. Good luck with the rest of the build!
So did we! Fun, wasn`t it?
"Looked easier than it was"..........
MAN, you ain`t KIDDING! I`m just glad to see we`re not alone, OR crazy!

Sounds like you`re on a similar path as we are, because we also dropped the gas tank this past weekend, and pulled the engine & trans! We found the tank to be rusted through, so it will have to be replaced.
Did you manage to get the clip off so it can be re-used ? The reason i ask is i think this is something i will have to do later on my vette , i found rust in the passenger side door channel / support No 1 mount . I don't know how to repair or replace the upright , and cant see any other way than removing the front clip .
Keep up the great work and keep the pictures coming , i think its going to inspire a lot of others , including myself .
Got the other side off as well, this was just the first pic,but good eye!
Hooha and oldgto, are you guys doing a frame off?
We`ve decided to do a "frame-on" with this car. Once we started taking it apart and looking it over, it`s really not all that bad. We put new corners on the windshield frame, and new metal to patch a couple smaller holes, and still have a couple small ones to fix on the driver door, but the rest looks pretty good.
The front clip had to come off though, as it was damaged forward of the hood, so it was cheaper to get a complete clip (with headlights, grills, etc.) than it would`ve been to fix it piece by piece.

tyrant,
Yes, I have started doing a frame off about 3 years ago. Turned out to be waaay more than what I thought was going to be involved. The bad part is that I for the most part find myself replacing everything rather than using the old parts. The good thing is that in the end, I will have a brand new 69 but with the modern conveniences (steering, suspension, transmission etc).
I have been trying to decide if I should do a frame off, I would lie to but not sure I have the patience.
That had a lot to do with our decision too. Plus, since it`s in decent shape now, it will be quicker back together and on the road. We can fix any future things that go wrong as they happen. It only has to last another 15 to 20 years, after that, it will be my kids` problem!
Patience is definitely a must. After the first year of the resto and not having a Vette to drive in the summer, I thought I made a mistake and maybe should have just restored areas of the car while driving it. Then...........my wife suggested getting another one. It was a "pinch me now" moment.

LOL!
There`s a 66 GTO, a 69 Grand Prix, and a 65 Mustang in the garage too.... but they`re no fun anymore..... `cause they`re complete!
The fun for us is in the building. And as you can see in the pic, it`s a family hobby.

Thats great. I have been blessed with two daughters who prefer not to get dirty but I do have a two year old grandson who will learn my tool box eventually, and I have also said many times, these cars need people with little hands to get work done on !
