I just did some research on my engine block code: V1015CHB and it is the original block for a 1975 L48, mine was actually cast on my birthday....that is pretty cool.
Now that I know it is the original 165 HP engine, the car already has headers, any reccomendations on new carborators or anything to help boost its performance? I have been out of the classic car game for quite some time.
cam and intake manifold. try the free software download at competition cams and one of the Edelbrock performer manifolds.
Thanks, will do, I dropped the Vette off at an expert's shop today to go over it from top to bottom and let me know the "to do" list. I just bought the car off of an ebay auction and I know the immediate things that need to be addressed, but there are alot of little things that I may not be aware of.
Isn't it better to keep the original motor and trans in it to help the value?
Duh!!! That's why you put a crate motor in it, so you don't end up destroying the original engine. Put the original engine in mothballs somewhere nice and safe, and beat the tar out of the expendable crate engine!!!!
I found out that mine was number matching also. And built around my daughter's birthday.
And I was told it was a theft recovery.
It's a '77 l48, And my brother out ran me with his '92 Camery 3L V6 LOL
If the block has the car's VIN number (7 or so digits) stamped into the pad at the front of the passenger side cylinder head it's the original motor. If it doesn't, it's not the original motor or can't be verified to be original even if the casting number is correct.
The numbers were on the passenger side, I appreciate all the input. I am more familiar with classic Camaros so I didn't know about all the little things when it came to Vettes. From what I am gathering because the L48 engine wasn't that great, replacing it is the best road to go.
