a little "Stingray" Confusion
Ok so im a C3 Corvette freak but im still confused about the whole "Stingray" thing. I have a 1976 Corvette Stingray but i had some questions about it.
1) Was the "stingray" emblems a package or option to the stock corvette?
2) When was the last year of the Stingray because i heard it was 1976 but i see people who say they have a 1978 Stingray. That confuses me.
3) Ive also seen 74's and 76's Corvettes without "Stingray" Emblems. Why?

It was not a special package. It was just branding.
1976 was the last year to bear the "Stingray" badge, however many people colloquially refer to all 3rd generation Corvettes as Stingrays.

Stock. All 69-76s had the Stingray scripts on the fenders.

Last year for the actual fender emblems was 76.

Probably confuses them too.

I do not refer to all C3s as Stingrays. Technically, some of them are not Stingrays. BUT all of them are Sharks.

Only certain high performance models got the "Stingray" emblems.
It means they are like an "SS" model.

I have heard that Chevy is thinking about bringing back the "Stingray" badges for a new Steve Irwin The Crocodile Hunter Edition Corvette.
What!! Too soon?
Keep the shiny side up!

It's amazing how many people out there actually think this is the truth.

Its amazing how many people on this forum don't know this is true.
Also don't confuse with Sting Rays, which are 63-67.
Apparently the badge was removed in 68, then brought back and changed to "Stingray" in 69 because apparently people liked the name, but Chevy wanted to distinguish it (ever so slightly, I guess) from the midyears. Don't know why it was dropped in '77, because its not like they underwent major changes that year.

Ahhh I wouldn't categorize a Corvette with a toyota or a ford, there just cars and vette is an icon.
