I had never used a clay bar system on my car...had a little oxidation on the t-tops. Let me just say WOW! riding in my first parade tomorrow and she is sooooooooo pretty! I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow!
Clay bars are simply amazing, I use them on all of my cars. I bought a 2001 Eldorado a few years back and boy was the finish "dirty" & "grimy". The clay bar brought back the shine and finish was as smooth as a baby's butt! I would recommend using a clay bar everytime!
Now you need to wash the car and then put down a coat of wax. A clay bar removes contaminants from the paint and does not make it shiny. The lubricant you used with the MF cloth made it shine, like a detail spray. Unfortunately the clay can remove wax therefore there are parts of the car that need protection so lay some down. It's mentioned at 3.24 in the video.
Some will clay bar right before they are ready to put down another coat of wax. You know how smooth it feels now, so you will be able to tell if it needs it again. I might clay twice a year.
Did I say beautiful looking car .
Thanks OldSarge and Karol...I did forget to mention that I followed with a wax coat. I noticed that some people do a coat of polish first after the clay bar then wax. It made such a difference though because I had just waxed it 2 months ago when I first bought it...using the clay bar first helps the wax go on so much easier!
@Karol yes she was a big hit at the parade, plus had two guys pull up to the stoplight and ask me if it was for sale. Lots of really nice comments, and it was my first parade it was alot of fun. That is what I bought it for to enjoy it :-)
I use the Meguiars claybar kit from walmart. Its cheap, comes with two bars, and quick detail spray for lubrication (which also makes the car look great).
