How it really was, in the day

The old Hemi's could be made to be bad azz, but the way they were from the factory, was not so impressive. The L88 was pretty bad right out of the box. I used to drive these babies when they were new. Believe me that was a time in my life I would not trade for anything.

Nice video L88's were very hard to beat back in the day. 11.6 is like C6 Z06 territory today.

The L-88s are kicking everybody's butt in F.A.S.T. racing. So much for the theory that Vetts are no good for drag racing.

The L88 427 and 426 hemi were two of the best big blocks to come out of Detroit. They were very evenly matched right out of the box.
I've seen huge differences in individual performance from factory stock drivetrains from car to car of the same manufacturers. I think it's all in how they're tuned and sometimes you just get one that responds better. I would race a buddy who had a 325hp M21 4spd 396 '69' Nova with my 325hp M21 4spd 350 '69' Firebird and beat him everytime.. Both completely stock. If I were a betting man I would have put my money on the Nova and the big block Chevy..
I think the tuning was better on the vette. plain and simple...

Anyone notice how high the nose lifts on the C3?

Yes, I noticed. Reminded me of how my '69 Buick GS's nose rode high going down the strip with "trick" springs, bushings and 90/10 shocks up front (had enough static rake that it ran level, tho).
Just loved seeing a rat put a beat down on an elephant.
