I am new to Vettes. I have two Mustangs (91LX heavily modded and a 06 GT). My neighbor is getting older and decided that he wanted to make sure his Vette went to a good home so he offered it to me. I am from Detroit and love American Muscle so I couldnt pass her up. I know very little about Vette's so I will be asking a ton of questions in the future.

It needs a new front and rear bumper cover and a new speedo/tach cable. Other then that I know it was running fine and he drove it 2 years ago. Garage stored since day one to include car covered in the garage.
1st of all, welcome to the C3 club. The best in the world. Also welcome to the Chevy club! Your 75 is a great car. I own a 1980 4/speed and love a manual. I initially loved the C3 body style but knew the mid-later years had low Hp. No problem as I had a rebuild and now pulling over 380 Hp. I had also looked at a 75 and really think the car has a ton of potential. The manual is a sought after ticket. Post some pics so we can admire.
Congratulations on your 75 and welcome to the CF! I suspect with a stable of cars you have a lift for storage and for working on them? Post pictures of the 75, the gang really likes visual aids here. I joined almost 2 years ago and learned a lot about C3s as well as repairs and troubleshooting, but also learned that spending cash on maintaining these beautiful beasts adds up fast.
As demoke said, welcome to the club. These cars are like no other and will not only bring the best out of you but sometimes the worst. Buy some books and learn as much about the C3's as possible. Then make a list of what its going to take and cost to bring it back to where you want it. Then drive and have fun.
Welcome to the forum. Go to a supporting vendor website and get an AIM for your year Corvette. It's one of the two best books you can get for your car. If you're going to get serious with taking it apart and working on it the other best book is a shop manual. The speedo cable is easiest if you don't have cruise. A clip hold it into the back of the speedo that you can reach from under the car. It goes through a grommet with clips that hold it into the firewall. Routing can be tough, so tie a string around the end that you're pulling out and down so that you can follow that string back up with the new cable and you don't have to remember the routing. Take full advantage of the bendable loom clips under the car for securing the new cable and the transmission end is easy to remove with a small set of pliers. A '75 is an HEI car so you shouldn't have a tach cable. Just wires from the main harness to the distributor cap.
Welcome to the forum. My son is a Mustang man, nice cars but the Corvette is America's sports car. A lot of parts are available for these cars in the aftermarket segment, so restoring yours to original or modding it for "more power" will not be a problem. I too am originally from the Detroit area, and share a passion for powerful cars.
No picts for a couple of months. I am storing it at the neighbors and then I will move it to my Father In Laws. I will be building a storage shop for her.

My neighbor also has the original window stickers from the dealer so I am really kicking around making her a show car.
The rest of the story of the Vette goes like this:
Original owner was a Surgeon that worked with my neighbors wife. He had the 75 and an older Vette. The older Vette was in pieces being restored. He drove the 75 once a week in the summer from home to work which was less then a mile. One day he came home with a 3rd Vette and his wife flipped. So he solid the 75 to my neighbor as they were friends. My neighbor rarely drove it as he developed some health issues and he needed to fixt the front and rear bumper covers. He never got around to them and then the Speedo/tach cable seized and he stopped driving her all together. So now me as the third owner needs to make a decision, mod her for power and drive the crap out of her as I retire from the military and hit my 40th BDay and have my mid-life crisis (thats the excuse I gave the wife for buying it) or do I keep her stock and restore the areas that need work and just beat on the Stangs when I need speed?
After years of sitting I am thinking she will need to be re-plumbed and new belts along with the front and rear bumper covers, along with spark plugs, and fresh fluids.

Welcome to the C3 fraternity. I just sold my 69 Mustang to buy my 81 Vette. I can tell you without a doubt, the Corvette guys are just as nice (if not nicer) that the Mustang croud.

Thanks for the welcome! I find both groups equally friendly. Its time that both sides join together and fight off the imports with their coffee can exhausts. They will never be equal to a nice V-8! But I will admit the executives at Ford and GM can keep fighting with each other, both are producing some dang nice cars with HP and styling once again.
She doesnt need much work, front and rear bumper covers and some leather conditioner. I am goign to tune her up as I am sure she needs it from sitting for so long. I plan to get her out of the neighbors garage (second owner) in a couple of weeks and its off to the body shop to repalce the covers and get them painted. Then its detailing and joining the Twin Rivers Corvette club (local club).
I take it your from Michigan, I grew up in Sterling Hts but joined the Marine Corps in high school and have lived all over the country but spent the last 10 years here in NC. I love the area, little snow so I can golf almost year round and the stang can be driven daily with the exception of the 2 days of snow we get a year. This year we received no snow at all so I was happy.
Grew up in Harper Woods. Now live in Livonia. West side is Ford country for sure. Mustang parts and info are easy. That's why I love this forum. It's a great source of Corvette info, which is not easy to come by on my side of town.

I sold a '05 Mustang to get the Vette. Loved the Mustang, but I was missing having an older car around to tinker with and I've wanted a C3 since I was a little kid.
Adam, thats my story as well. I have a 06 GT and a 91 LX. I used to tinker on the LX but I have the dread surge so I need to get a dyno tune. Cant do that myself so nothing to tinker on. Always wanted a Vette but could not afford one (wife and 3 kids, two are out of the house now and the youngest loves old sports cars/muscle cars and calims the 91 is her's). So when my neighbor asked if I wanted to buy his Vette, th fact that I am retiring from the Militray in a few months and turning 40 this year, I couldnt say no. So now I have a nice car to tinker on and take to local shows.

I am modding the heck out of my '76 (LS1, Richmond six, and flares) but my car was already about as far from original as it could get. Yours sounds like a good candidate for a nice restore. Personally if I had that car and a mustang to beat around, I would bring the 'vette back to its original glory. You could bolt on a few things to wake the engine up if you really wanted, but that stuff can always be set back to original.

I plan to keep her as original as possible, the only aftermarket will be the repalcement bumper covers and the normal replacement parts...plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc....the only mods will be a better sterio but I plan to go with the secret sterio and mounting an amp on a speaker box with quick connector power so I can pull it for shows. Nothing wired into the car speakers or radio. Basically a stand alone system.
I plan to post photos in a couple of weeks when I pull her out to take to the body shop. I will post the before and after photos.
