hello all,i have a 72 cpe i spent the last 2 days test fitting all necessary items. door gaps, wiper door etc.. had everything right were i wanted it. problem is the passenger tire is hitting the front of the fender when turning the wheel in. i'm pretty pissed cause i thought i would finally get to attach this thing. one note the wiper door has 0 shims on pass side and 4 on drivers side to get it to line up. dont know if that means anything or not. any help would b appreciated. john

Are you referring to the rear outer edge of the tire rubbing on the lip at the bottom of the fender? Was the body ever off the frame? Wondering if it's located too far forward. What size tires do you have installed?
ok a little backround. body has been off. replaced 2/3 of birdcage with a donor due to horrible rust. this is a different frame also for same rust reason.
i am following mainevettes build.
here are a few pics of both sides passenger side first.
0 clearence on pass side. close to 1/2" on drivers side. john
Have you checked radiator support shims? Based on your pics, the nose looks a little low to me. Are the fender skirts bonded to the fenders and surround panel?
i do have shims under rad support. fender skirts r bonded as i never broke them loose. is there another way to get the nose up other than shimming rad support?
Here's another frame off resto that I have been following since the beginning. This guy is very detail oriented and may be able to offer you some pointers in his documented progress. This link will take you to step 1 of the clip install but there are 3 more steps taking you to the end. The rest of the site is very informative as well. Good luck.
How many alignments shims are there on that wheel? Especially in the front? You can do a quick check for a frame misalignment by measuring the location of the lower ball joint on each side to other frame reference points.
The front cross member can adjusted up and down by the frame extensions also.
Make sure you install the hood & all the bumper brackets before calling all the adjustments & fit final.
Ecklers Fiberglass repair book chapter 18 is a good reference for this job. Pm me if you don't have it
