Default Help!!!!

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 79 and have another thread showing progress, but I'm currently stumped by an issue with the rear tires/trailing arms. Here are some pics showing how the trailing arm, hub/wheel/tire are sitting to low. Body is sitting flush on the mounts, so that's not the problem for sure. Anyway, any thoughts on what I've done wrong would be most appreciated.

Ok, so any ideas/suggestions? Thanks in advance and for looking.

Although minor, I can see a potential problem with the bottom pic. The bushing cup on the spring end isn't seated. That cup actually fits inside the opening in the spring and is flared on top once installed so that it does not come out of the spring leaf. That same cup should also be installed inside the trailing arm under the top bushing... can't tell from the pic if it is there or not.

Also, for some reason, it doesn't look the head of your spring bolt is fully seated, which might also be what is keeping you from tightening the nut enough to insert the cotter pin.

If someone else can confirm this, and if you can take a closer picture of the spring end bolt in its current state, you might be just a few simple steps away from getting the proper ride height.

Other than making sure you've got the bolt set up correctly, I wouldn't be too concerned with it just yet. The rear suspension might settle in with a couple trips around the block.

*edit* If it helps, here is a picture of mine before I took my rear suspension apart:

You can see how the bushing cups sit in the T/A & spring, & can see the flared portion of the cup mounted in the spring.

Do the wheels turn without binding? Are the side yokes fully penetrating the rear end? Also, if you have just put it all back together the suspension will not be settled yet. Once the weight is dropped you typically will still have several inches of drop to expect once the car gets out on the roads and settles. The height is misleading until this happens.

Interior installation will add some weight.
