New here but I've been into cars since I could walk. Never did have a vette and just so happened I sold my 72 Chevelle ls5 and a day later this 76 project pops up on CL. I pretty much bought it on the spot, problem was I didn't have a trailer to drag it home. My trailers were either to big or to small so I found a 20' on CL real cheap, bent axle, tweaked frame but she made it back to the shop.
Well I guess if you were looking for a long term project you found it!
You will discover very quick a normal car verses a vette in this shape are two very different animals.
Good luck

Long term? I plan to be driving this car in May. I've got a 73 LT/RS Camaro thats a long term project.
I stripped the rest of the paint, did the body work and primed the car the day after I got it to the shop. I started blocking today and plan to jam the car this week yet.
how much work does the suspension need? are you gonna put in new differential and trailing arms? there is a big difference in the car being done fast and the car being done right. wish you the best welcome to the board any and all questions can be answered here. keep posting pictures lots of pictures as you go along.

The car is in great shape, I had 4 spots in the glass I had to repair. The previous owner already did all of the suspension work, its all new. The only thing he did wrong was tore it down to far but he did bag and tag every single part and had everything boxed neatly. The only thing I didn't get was a battery and a spare tire. Interior is perfect but red.
The only thing I don't like is how high it sits now.
X, you certainly don't dilly-dally - you got after it right away!!! I'm guessing if the PO just completed the suspension work, it will settle into its proper stance - assuming it was done properly. Good luck, have fun and keep posting pictures of your progress
Thanks, definatly not my first rodeo, I've been painting for over 20 years, did a lot of vettes at Berger Chevrolet back in the early 90's. Now I do media blasting and painting on anything from cars to equipment to dump trucks and trailers. I try to keep a car or two around for filler work.
Where are you guys buying your rubber weatherstriping? I know I will be needing a complete kit.
corvette rubber company is the only brand I would even look at as far a weatherstrip. Check out willcoxcorvette.com as they have some forum discounts on the weathrestrip packages. Great service too. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the vette!
Well, I got the drivers side, hood, tops and roof blocked today, found a couple spots that will need attention and I now remember why I hate block sanding, bleeding finger tips. Should have the rest of the car done tomorrow.
I'm debating on what color to paint it, red again? or black? I havn't done a black car in a long time so I was kind of leaning towards black. I havn't owned a red car since I was 17, 40ish now and never really liked red.
Had to take a few days off this car due to a back injury that creeps up once in a while. Anyway, car is all blocked out, bumpers stripped and ready for primer. I'm going to blast, prime and paint some of the front end parts under the front end. I knew I wouldn't be able to get away with priming once so I primed the car again today. After I blocked the car I wet each panel and found a couple waves so I fixed a lot more than I expected so I figured I better block it once more. Doors come off tomorrow and the interior is going to be put back together before paint.
Thanks... Got the doors off this morning then figured I would do a clean up on the engine compartment before everything goes back in. Moved it to the other building and got the wiring harness installed and started on the heat/ac parts.
I'm working on the inside harness, it looks like it goes over the colum? Anybody done a complete resto with a ton of pics I can look at? I've got a c3 disc but its a little confusing trying to find what I'm looking for.

I wish I had a ton of pictures, but I don't. I got my 76 in pieces so it was kind of hard to re-assemble something that I did not take apart.
The wires go over the steering column. There should be 2 metal U shaped brackets that hold it above the tach and speedo. I got some help from other folks who sent me photos and i will see if I can find them.
Good luck.

EDIT: I found some pictures that some good folks sent me when I had the same trobles:
