Default Should I paint my 81?

I only paid $8000 and it was a bargain. The car has around 145,000mi. The original engine has about 35,000 on a rebuilt. It looks great from a foot away. Shines up very nice and get lotsa thumbs up. 4 speed standard California car. New interior. I've had most of few mechanical problems repaired.
I severely injured my back (fusion) but am still able to drive it and it runs good except for the 190hp factory engine . Love to drive. I am unable to do many repairs anymore because of the bad back.
Here's the question; it has a few chips and a tiny thin scratch close to and around the drivers side door. There are a few minor places on the back where the fiberglass has risen, just a lil. Aside from a thorough engine cleaning valve covers off and some minor engine compartment detailing it's just not bad.
Should I spend the money to repair the blemishes and paint it. It isn't going in any shows and just to get the nice black back were talkin about $5,000 to do her right. Sorry for the long one. I have posted a few pictures. This will be my last rod because of my age of 60 and medical problems . Thanks ahead.

If it makes you happy, do it. We only go around once, right. Rally, it's a nice looking vette and if you are like me, everything has to be just right. Good luck and if you pull the trigger, show us pics.

$6K buys a lot of fuel, and lodging, meals and side trips as you drive the heck out of it. Which is exactly how I'd spend that money. It won't run any better or for any longer with new paint on it. Hit the bank for some cash, pack your bags, sit down with your wife and plan a trip....then go!

Go for it. You are not going to be able to take the $ with you, might as well enjoy it now...(direct quote from my Dad )

Drive it and enjoy it....nothing worse sometimes than seeing friends turn good weekend cruisers into trailer queens because they're dreading that first scratch or stone chip. 6 large could make for a couple of good summer road trips, and like you said, from a few feet away she'll look great in the pictures anyways - might as well have some nice backdrops.

My 64's paint is as old as yours and thinking about a repaint gives me a headache. I would love looking at it in the garage, but the thought of driving it after spending 5-10k on paint? I wouldn't want to drive anywhere or park next to anyone.

But its your $$$$, and I agree you can't take it with you, but that is at least a semester in college for a grandkid. Just sayin'.

What's worst than leaving the body shop after spending 5000 and getting rocks chips the first weekend. If it's not that bad you should enjoy the car.

I say drive it the way it is, just have some of the issues taken care of... Take it from me. I just had mine painted a year ago and I worry about every little rock, nick scrap you name it.... If you dont put the money in it for a paint job I think you will have more fun driving it....
Now every time im on the freeway I make sure im far back from a semi or any big truck as not to get rock chips.. Pulling off the side of the roads kicking up rocks worries me now.. You name it I worry about the paint.... LOL...

I got exactly the type of answers I was looking for. Thanks to you all. Mostly the same thing my club members say. It to new to show at most the classic car shows we attend. I'm just going to drive the wheels off it. That paint money could go for many more important things. Thanks again. Have a good weekend!

My 72 LT-1 has a few blemishes and one is a 1" gouge right in the middle of the driver's door. I haven't had it painter because I'm afraid I won't drive it as much for fear of getting scratched or nicked. Just my thoughts. I would just drive it and enjoy.

I would go to a body shop and see how good they could touch up some of the spots and that would be it.
