On my 1981 I'm trying to figure out what this is. On the top of what I think is my smog pump there is this plastic elbow with a 90 that is pumping out warm air.
1) Is this the smog pump.
2) Should there be a hose attached to this.
3) If there should be a hose where should the other end go?
Thats what I thought but didn't see anythink on the aircleaner that wasn't already attached to something and no empty holes where something was missing.
So what is attached to the square hole in the front squarish(between the air ducts) hole in the air cleaner base? I believe as part of that hose it transforms into a flexible hose that converts to an open square fitting that plugs into the hole in the front of your air cleaner. See if you can see it in this picture. I'm sure that is where it goes

The hose originally had an accordion section after the elbow, as seen in Jclgodale3's photo, that went into the front of the air cleaner.
Unfortunately, GM discontinued that hose about 20 years ago, and it hasn't been repro-ed. They're also pretty hard to find used, as they were made of a thin plastic and tended to get brittle and break quite easily. I think that it's an 81 only part too.
I looked at my instruction manual and that is a part of the air control switch valve. the other end of the hose goes to the air cleaner. I will try to scan the drawing and post it tomorrow. I hope this helps a little.
