Default Instrument Lamps

I need to replace my lamps in my `75. Can anyone tell me what lamps are used for the guages? I'm actually going to go LED ... if anyone has that info as well.

Thanks!

Any LED that replaces the 194 will work. I have the 9 tower LEDs in mine and they look great!

What does the job entail? Doesn't look like a simple job. I've pulled the center window switch panel, the radio and guages, and loosened the L panel. Do I have to remove all pieces of the dash?

The car has been sitting pretty much since I bought it in `06 and bought a battery today. Bubba owned this car at some point before me and it's left me pretty much dis-interested for a while.

when i had to change bulbs i pulled out the seat and took off everything under dash that would come off then just laid down where the seat was got a cushion for my head and reached up and started unplugging the lights as for the center panel it comes out fairly easy just look for the hidden screws.get a aim manual for pics of how it comes off or maybe someone can put up that page for you.

Pretty sure the early cars did not use 168/194s in the dash.

FWIW, I used leds from superbrightleds.com

I went with warm white ones, very close to the stock color and slightly brighter. Under 10% of the total power draw of the stock light.

I chose warm white because on the 77-82 consoles, the inside of the gauges are colored and warm white is a close match to an incandescent light. I didn't want to try a color that was too far off and find out "I've made a huge mistake". Arrested Development joke...

I don't know about a '75, but I just did that job on my '80 last week. I had to remove the panel below the steering column, remove the two bolts in the middle of the steering column (under the dash, not through the firewall), remove the screws from tach/speedo, and tip it back.

I replaced the conductor console gauge printed circuit because it was delaminated and some of the conductors were broken by a PO and the tach circuit board because there were a couple of burnt areas on it that I think were related to the tack reading about 400 rpm low.

The bulbs fit in sockets that you turn and pull to remove and insert and turn to replace.

Does that help?

The pre-78 cars a completely different beast... much worse to pull I believe.

The 77 speedo/tach cluster is a similar beast as the 68-76, now that I think about it.

68 to 76 cars use a 1445 style bulb for the dash. To get the speedo and tach out correctly, you need to drop the column. If you don't, you will probably tear or stress the dash area around the column. Each bulb has it's own socket with a grey wire.
