My 72 who has a build date of 9may has figgured out she is about to turn 40 so started falling apart. First was a U-joint on the right half shaft. when I went to replace them I found out they had likly never been replaced. The caps blew the top off insted of pressing out. I have changed more then a few U-joints over the years and never seen this. While changing the U-joints I found out I had a bent yoke. So I decided Insted of dealing with all this mess I would order preassembled half shafts a few weeks later when they arived (I am military stationed in Italy) I took her around the block. I squeeled once then never again. A two mile test drive and my right rear wheel bearing took a huge dump and the right rear sets at a angle. So more parts on order and I hope she will be happy after all this hassle.
Sorry to hear about that CM2 - rear end problems can get expensive in a hurry and they can also end up being entire rebuilds VERY quickly. Hope it works well after you get the wheel bearing replaced.
Hang in there... I was right there with you several months ago. I realized one bearing was starting to go and when I started to go through everything it ended up becoming trailing are rebuilds with new spindles along with a rear diff cover, etc. etc. etc.
