Default FS Suggestions 81

I've been trying to sell my 81 C3 for about 3 months. I've tried ebay, gotten several tire kickers. I thought I had it priced right, can you guys tell me what I should sell it for. I have it on craigslist now being that ebay wants to charge me to list (after so many relists).
Here's the link: http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/ctd/2912933189.html
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Details on minimal rust? I wouldn't advertise with a battery jump starter sitting in the floor board. 79,000? Or 179,000 miles? Accident history? Why was the car repainted? (even though it needs it again) Does it have a clear title? Is it currently licensed? How long has it been sitting? Most of these questions will be asked by a prospective buyer.

Impossible to price without details. Is the rust terminal? I don't think you will get 5500 without answering these basic questions

Much better and the additional details help. But where is the rust you speak of?

It's worth your asking price.

If it makes you feel any better I am in the same market and I listed my '81 last year for 2-3 months and got no responses. Mine is a numbers matching 4-spd with no rust, good paint and a long list of new parts. It is a driver with 87k mi that I asked $8,500 for.

I think you're pretty close to the right price. The problem is that you'll have to find someone who can look past the cosmetics. Poor paint is the number one turn off for may folks, but it shouldn't really be their top concern.
You'll just have to hold out for the right buyer.
One suggestion: Take out the "Price is firm"
Most guys, myself incuded, enjoy a little haggling and they want to think they're getting a deal. So, let them make you an offer below what you're asking. When they do, maybe you come down a hundred or two, but that's the time to let them know you're pretty firm on your price. The most important thing is to start the negotiation process.
Good Luck

I would suggest you polish up those wheels and scrub those tires, clean up those white letters and put some tire dressing on.Car will look that much better and shows you take good care of the car.Not much costs involved, just a little time.Vette looks to be priced about right.Good Luck.....

Its possible no one wants a vette right now.
I have mine for sale also and there is only 1 type of buyer for a vette and thats someone who wants a vette.
Its hard to talk someone wanting a 68 Camaro into buying a Corvette, but they may accept a Nova or different year Camaro or Chevelle.
The best buyer for a vette is a first time buyer because they don't know anything about them and since you own one they think your the expert.
As long as you keep it running someone will buy it.

I think you have it priced right. Clean it up a little like others have said, that could make a world of difference. I wouldn't take a penny less for it.

Good Luck Tim

Wow! that is a lot of pictures. That's ok though, but some of them seem to be duplicates or almost. Looks like a decent car and I think it's a fair price. Could be just a slow time to sell cars. What about placement? Can you sit it in a place that gets some street visibility? (main road, parking lot... ). And maybe wash and wax it (and get that branch off!!).

I bought mine (81) for 6000, he was asking 7000, and if I had really bargained (and wasn't overcome with emotion) I probably could have gotten it for 5500. When I bought it, I wasn't looking for any car let alone a Corvette. I knew nothing about them. Luckily there have been no disappointments. But it was pure emotion.

Anyways, good luck.

You should definitely have a minor detail done to your car. It looks to be worth the asking price. Never ever take pics of a dirty car. Many have offered similar suggestions. During this economy there are going to be less buyers but, you may find somebody that wants a Vette for a lil less as a project. If it runs good, looks good and doesn't need too much work and you're patient you'll sell it. I wasn't looking for a Vette when I bought mine. Once I saw my 81 black beauty I was determined to have it at the right price. Those rims can be shined up a lot. Good luck!

To me it looks like your doing your best to not sell this car....
-when you empty the catcher out of your lawn mower don't empty it into the rear window moulding.
- take the jump start out of the cockpit
- remove the stick of the rear
-dont show smoke puffing out your exhaust like grandmas kettle
-in general take pictures of the good things not the paint bubbles, bad body alignment etc.
-A buyer will be curious where that 14mm bolt on the ground fell out.
-you got hoses hanging of your air pump going nowhere
I could go on forever but in general show the good things not the bad.

For sale is an 1981 Corvette, grey interior... Runs and drives, very clean. Original paint, clear coat is faded, no undercarriage rot. Doors are clean, no rust. Windows work, glass T-tops do not leak. 79,000 original miles. No accidents, clean title in hand. Has been garage since purchased, was in storage the last few years from previous owner. Selling to make room. Will need typical service when buying a pre-owned vehicle. Brakes, tune-up and wash. Great project car, very forgiving. Price is firm... Send email Youtube

i wouldnt say selling to make room. doesnt sound genuine, at least say need the cash for family commitments...something? and when you say it needs a service, brakes and tune up thats just admitting that its been neglected.8 good pics and some detailing and you would find a buyer .
