Default Front Bumper Cover Question

Will a 73 - 74 front bumper cover fit on our '77? I'm only concerned with the body mounting area - not the metal and honeycomb bracing behind the cover factory cover.

If it will fit, the only other issue I see is the grills and blinkers?

Thanks for any help with this,
Adam

I would say no. The top/front mounting surface is straight across. The 1975-79 has an indent toward the hood.

Ahh! I didn't realize that - Thanks for the response Paul. I was hoping to eliminate the ugly bumper guards on the front of our '77.

Hmmm... time to spin the brain wheels and come up with plan B.

If you get fiberglass garuda, you can cut the bumperettes off and go that route. I also like the look of the 73/74 nose piece. It retains more of the classic chrome bumper look.

Swap out the hole front end to a 73? Or better yet 70-72. And adapt to chrome bumpers.
My dream build.

This one, the bumper is bonded to the front clip and the fangs cut off. You can barely see the indent Paul74 was talking about.

Is that a fiberglass cover? I'm guessing it is since you bonded it. I have been considering doing this to ours - it is a really clean look without the bumper cover seams. I like how much cleaner the front looks without the bumper guards sticking out too... very nice. How did you end up with the recess areas where they were?

Adam--

I will be bonding a fiberglass front bumper (and glassing the seam) on in the next week or two... I'll be posting step-by-step as I do it... I have a spare '73 fiberglass front bumper if you want it... It's not a direct fit, but will save you $300... Don't know if the grilles are interchangeable or not... Probably not...

It's a Trueflex; if I had it to do over again, I'd go with a real fiberglass cover.

The fangs aren't really bumper guards, they cover the bumper guards underneath the bumper cover; so when the fangs are cut off, they're hollow 'scoops.' I didn't install the 'real' bumper guard piece underneath--which revealed a 'well' in the support. I drilled holes in the well and installed a transmission cooler behind it; so those holes in the bumper cover really are scoops.

Thanks for the response gkz - it turned out fantastic! Not sure if you're a pro bodyman or not, but you did an outstanding job on that.

Rogman - Thank you for that very generous offer! I'll send you a PM on this.

Thanks. I didn't know beans about fiberglass; but I listened to Tracdogg and learned a bunch . Hope your project goes well...
