Technicality? Really? Up, down; in, out; right, left; engaged, disengaged. Seems pretty basic to me.
Well, now, up isn't necessarily always up, and down isn't always down, if you see what I mean......it all depends on your perspective. Same applies to in, out, right, left, engaged, disengaged......it all depends on how you look at it.........That's why they use port and starboard in the navy. The starboard side of a ship is always the starboard side of the ship. The right side of the ship changes depending on what direction you are looking at it from.
It is an accepted convention that left or right, (port and starboard for you nautical types) denotes your viewpoint as sitting in the driver's seat, not looking at it bow on or from underneath on your back on a creeper. Cripes!

Well, that's one way of looking at it..........
I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist. You are right (correct?) these are commonly accepted conventions. I just read the obviously sarcastic tone of your first post, and figured you were up for a little kidding around. If you read my post right (next?) after yours, you can see that I actually agree with you. The music sounds better if all the musicians are on the same sheet of music.
Scotty, still working on it. It is probably going to be that reverse is stuck in gear. Thanks for your help. Sorry about the engaged/disengaged...............63 silverpearl
Hey I could hollar at my buddy.....whenever that has happens to me I just call him (little guy) and he squirts under the car hollers at me for a wrench and jacks around on the shifter linkage till he gets it clear......ya gotta love friends...........
