So I bought the car last year and have been going over everything that was wrong. I had a few issues with both the Hvac and headlight vacuum lines so I pulled all the gauges out so I could access the hoses under the dash and I found this hiding behind the center gauges.
There's 2 plugs that weren't hooked up to anything and there's 4 relays taped up into pairs.
The car has a Ungo box on the fire wall and the wire ran to this mess but wasn't hooked up to anything. So Im wondering is all this stuff useless stuff under my dash?
It looks like the remains of a remote start. If that's the case, you should be able to trace where each wire is spliced into and remove the rest of the harness.

Mine was such a mess with splices and taps that I replaced the whole harness. Not as bad a job as I'd feared. Also replaced it because I don't trust 40 year old wiring insulation to not crack and short out. Flames don't look good on the inside!

Looks like the same guy that owned our '77 worked his magic on yours as well.
Easy Mike would say.....get "Bubba's" HIM
the Hackit Instruction Manuel.......
Maybe try Bubba's guide for electrical nightmares......
Or just get some nippers, close your eyes, and start chopping stuff off (i'm just kidding)
Looks like you have yourself a little problem but, I bet Mooser is on the money and you'll get it figured out and corrected....good luck.
Come on guys we all did a lil of that when we were young. Usually hooking up a radio. I bought a beautiful 60 Chevy Impala in the late 60s. I was driving on a California freeway at night. All of a sudden the whole car went dead and I smelled burning wire. I pulled over safely and saw a cherry red burning wire and jerked it out. It started right up. I traced the wires and secured them and drove it for years trouble free. I wish I still had that car.
Gotta admit, been guilty of a bit of this over the years myself. Usually just a combination of adding/removing electronics, and being to lazy to put the factory wiring back into place. Finally got off my duff, and did it right though. You're gonna be suprised when pulling off that old electrical tape, if not good quality stuff like Scotch 33+, will leave a gooey mess, that wont easily clean up. Get those tap-a-line connectors out of there, as just an accident waiting to happen. A loose wiring connection is worse than no connection, as can generate heat, taking lots of wire with it. Definitely worth the trouble tracing through things, and making it right. May take some soldering, heat shrink tubing, but best now, while it's all apart.
