Stock speakers very quiet...
I am in the process of getting my 75 vette back up to driving condition and started testing all the electronics. Everything works fine and had 2 bulbs that needed to be replaced. I know the C3 stereo sucks but I cant even hear it with the car turned off and the windows rolled up and the stereo turned to WOT without sticking my head next to the speaker.
Is there a factory amp or something I need to be looking for? I mean its really low volume.
Yes, I am installing speakers and an amp in the back for the IPod but I want the stock system to work.

Is it the original factory radio? There is a small amp behind the right side dash, its about a 4" place with aluminum fins with a round dish in the middle.
You could have a loose connection or the wires could be shot.

Crap, from the looks of that it is WAY up inside the dash. That explains why I couldnt see it by sticking head under the dash. I have been avoiding pulling the dash apart. It hasnt been molested and I hate trying to get a dash back in rattle proof.

The passenger side dash is the one part of the dash that is easy to remove. It's just a couple of screws on the jamb side, three across the top, and the screws from the radio bezel. Remove those and you should not have a problem wriggling it out. The top kind of tucks under the top dash pad.

Naw. It's usually right behind the passenger's dash pad. Before you pull the pad, look around under there (on top of the heater box) and see if you can find the pig tail connector (green, blue, and yellow wires). It plugs in to the rear of the stock radio.

I'm not sure it's being reproduced. Post a want ad in the Parts section. I've seen the transistors by themselves listed on eBay. Doesn't take much to swap out the transistor.
