Default Ground???

Have an issue with my gauge cluster , namely my fuel and temp gauges.
I did a interior resto and when I reinstalled the cluster, musta hit something and the printed circuit board smoked up... (all gauges were fine before this) I replaced the circuit board and now the fuel gauge stays at full and the temp gauge pegs at start up , I'm thinking the ground to these two are faulty ... If thats the issue how would I check it? Could I just hit the ground terminal with a grounded wire ??
ANY ideas greatly appreciated !!
The rest of the gauges are fine

Thanks!

Much like yourself, Im not an electrician..but it would seem to me that hitting a ground post with a good solid ground would be relatively harmless.

My question though is do all 5 gauges use the same ground or are they grounded individually? Kinda strange that just 2 were effected?

I know Ive had fuel gauge issues on other cars, whereas the gauge stayed on full when the ground at the sender got disconnected.

Good timimg u2bdet, I just finished my interior makeover and have the same problem. I tried to fix my clock as the thin copper leads were not connected but I must have done something to affect my fuel gauge. I'm not sure about my temp gauge as it didn't work before either. I'm curious to see what they think.

Going to try the ground wire route ..we'll see what happens , if that fails going to re-install the printed circuit board ...

Will post results,
