Dark spots on paint
My 75 is the dark red metalic. I noticed it has dark spots on it but they appear to be under the clear coat. I tried wax, rubbing compound, and clay bar but nothing removes them. Is this common with the old red paints or did something get on my car. Its in several areas of the vehicle.

Has your car been repainted? No clear coat on stock 75s. Original paint was acrylic lacquer.

Most likely it's acid etching under the clear coat. When rain is allowed to stand on paint sun filters through it like a magnifying glass and etches the paint. If it isn't removed quickly it is very hard to remove. You can try a solution of vineagar and water but that doesn't always work. The other methods are machine polishing or fine wet sanding which is best left to a professional. Some have claimed success with baking soda and water followed by polishing but I have never tried that.

Red 2011 parked in front and the owner complained about all the attention mine was getting.
I told him he would understand in 40 yrs .
Drive her and enjoy her she is a mint...

Thanks guys. I was starting to get disappointed. I have always wanted an "old" car that I could show off. Thursday so goes to the body shop...right after I work on the tach! Got the parts from Wilcox tonight.

My good friend picked up a 66 Mustang coupe last year; the car was restored, but the enamel paint was done very poorly and it has puddles in the flat spots, as well as some rough finish in some area. He gets all kinds of attention, even on a walk-by it looks nice. You have to get close and then you see the problems. It gets lots of head-turns and waves going down the road.
Meanwhile, I can't wait to get mine on the road; good luck finding any flaws in my paint!
Run yours, show it, do whatever. Haters gonna hate! Most are going to really appreciate a classic Corvette!

Its already a trailer queen...sort of. it only has 6,210 miles on it. It had 6,147 when I bought it a few weeks back but I have been fixing the brakes and testing them, then working on the carb and testing it...when I get the tach fixed I plan to test it as well. LOL
Its hard to look cool driving her around missing both the front and rear bumper covers and having the plate duct taped to the window.

I promise your paint looks better than mine!
It's kinda grown on me though...Survivoresque I like to call it.
Paint will be absolutely the last thing I do to this car.
The worry-free and low maintenance aspects are a plus.
Looking at a C-3 is great. Driving one is greater still...

I've actually had the red from body filler show through paint over time. Especially light colors. It'll look like a shadow in the paint in certain light but hard to see in other light. That's why they sell blue hardener as well. You sure it was never painted?
