I sent the necessary request form and a check to the Oklahoma DMV to get a complete title history for our car.
Turns out by that, they mean "complete" in Oklahoma.
Added one PO to the previous PO which I bought the car from....I got a name and address (Arkansas).....it's from 1994, but IF I can talk with him maybe I can find out more ......
Dang, I was so excited and anxious to get the history ......now I still have 21 years of NOT knowing......who, where, for how long....
I did find out when the PO bought it, it had 51,000
miles on it.....and he paid $5,500.00 for the car.
Sounds like you now need to request a title search in Arkansas- Not a big deal?
Most of these cars have moved around through several states over the past 40 years- It's to be expected.
NCRS is another potential source of information. For NCRS members, a Shipping Data Report Service ($40) is available for 1962 thru 1975 Corvettes.
The information consists of the dealer code, dealer name, dealer address and the date the car was produced. The good news is this should allow you to find the original dealer where your Corvette was sold and possibly open the door to finding more information about your Corvette.
This information has been recovered from GM microfilm and, in spite of aging/damage, about 90% of the cars searched for are found in the data base. (No charge if the car cannot be found.)
--------
FWIW: For 1977 and later St Louis Corvettes, the GM Heritage center can provide a Shipper document that lists your VIN's RPO codes, original dealer and address, shipping date, etc. Does not help your situation, but may help someone reading this thread.
Update--- I might have found the owner from 94....if, it's him, he's now an attorney in Dallas...what would the odds be of someone with the Exact name and middle intial be, going to school at OU during that time frame?
He's supposed to call me back....fingers crossed.
I like the suggestion of "ancestry.com" for old cars.
Good luck in your search for the previous owners. I have the names of several of my cars previous owners, but have not decided to call them about the cars yet.
The vast majority of states' DMVs nowadays will not be very helpful in providing title histories over 10 years old for a variety of reasons, including manpower and privacy concerns.
Even states that seem to offer the service seem to return requests with incomplete docs. Its the way it is- the Internet, etc is usually more productive.
I imagine that NCRS members have access to the SDRS report as a feature of their membership, then? ...
Yes, available for members, send your VIN and $40 for a report. There is also a Documents Service that identifies real/fake GM documents related to your car. That "fully documented" BB 68, might just have started life as a SBC - the service verifies if the documents are real for the VIN.
The previous owner from Dallas called me.....he did go to school at OU back in 1994 and had to sell the car to help with schooling. He said he has pics from other POs and knew a lot about the car.....he bought it from a DJ at KMOD ROCK station in Tulsa Oklahoma....
He and his wife took their first date in this car......
He was excited to hear it not only was still alive and well, but, was in good hands and being given a good home. He stated he would like to buy it. Not sure how the wife will feel about that....but, I told him we would put him at the TOP of the list if we did ever decide to sell it.
With the help of Rick I think we can trace nearly all the previous history and document it.....
Update....sent him several pics and you can tell he is really pumped about seeing his old girlfriend......after 18 years....wow

Thanks for the answer, MM. I have often wondered what options I had to decode whether my car was sold from a CO dealership or where.
To the OP, your contact with the PO made his day. Happy for all involved and congrats. If the opportunity arises, post any new pics of "the old girl" with him to share here. Thanks!
