Goes to the switch in the brass block on the top of the driver side frame rail. Activates the brake warning light when there is an imbalance between the front and rear brake systems.
Doesn't the switch on the brake block have a 'stud'?
The connector pic'd goes on a 'spade'.
You may be right. Mine is a '69, don't know what a '77 has. The brown wire and 90 degree rubber boot looked familiar in that area. If the car has an electric oil pressure gauge...
It looks like it goes to the oil pressure sending unit as per the first suggestion. It didn't fix my oil pressure guage, but it did plug right into the sending unit, and looks like it is a good fit. Next step is to test the sending unit and the wire (there were some splices in it) to see which will fix the oil pressure guage.
Check the threads on the sending unit. If someone wrapped TOO much teflon tape on them it would affect the ground.
I've read where certain situations will 'spike' the gauge OR cause no movement at all, just don't know which without doing a search.

I will just take all the tape off and see what it does. It is pegging out at both ends, just does what it wants. Not sure if it was doing anything before I plugged that wire up Saturday. I was doing other stuff, so didn't mess with it more than plugging it back in. And since the guage did not work before, I never paid much attention to it so I do not know what it was doing before I plugged it back in. I did do some searches Sunday and found some testing suggestions. Maybe this weekend!
