Default Anyone install tight headers on a 82??

I bought the true dual exhaust kit with the Patriot headers and just got the headers installed but on the passenger side the knock sensor is touching the header flange. So now the sensor plug is also touching?? The plug though looks like it's temp rated because of the goo wrapped around it. I don't know what to do to give me clearance. Can that be eliminated? Or will it throw a code?? I know if you ever have to change that sensor you will have to remove the header first..

Pull the header off and cut some clearance.

Won't work, the only place I need clearance is where the sensor screws into the block. Other than that they fit fine.

Call Patriot customer services and ask why their headers do not fit your car. They may have a work around for the sensor.

I called Pertronix who is the maker for those headers and nothing... But I called Corvette Central where I got them and spoke with a Tech, he told me some of the 82s did not have knock sensors. So can I remove it and have no affect on the computer?? I know all it does is when it detects detonation the computer will back off the timing.

Not correct. 82 DOES have a knock sensor. Down in front of starter screwed into engine block right hand side , big round brass with a single wire going to it. Has a single small stud sticking out on top of it for wire clip.

Larry, correct that is exactly what I have but the header flange is resting on it by the pin. Will that hurt it?? Also is it in a water passage?

Pics? I find it hard to believe you couldn't grind a notch out of the flange.

Does that knock sensor have to be in the block? Because even if I grind the flange I still can't get the bolt through. I was thinking of taking a 90 deg. fitting screwing it into the block then screwing the knock sensor into that??

Yes, it does. But its placement isn't super critical. You could relocate it, or tweak the headers away from the block a bit.

I am so screwed!!! I tried repositioning it but still didn't make a difference and the headers can't be tweaked without doing some damage. So I decided to bring the sensor in closer to the block and in doing so I snapped off the sensor from the male end. So now it looks like I have a plug in the block. I even thought about switching it to the driver's side but don't see any drain plugs. I don't know what to do......

This may sound stupid......but from this pic it looks like the header flange has been welded on a piece thats only a few inches deep....... I can see it. Can you take it to a muffer shop have them cut the flange off and make it an inch or two longer to clear the sensor? They may be able to put it on at an angle that would help clear it as well....
Good luck I feel your pain......it can be so frustrating..
Hang in there, buddy.

They might be able to just cut a V notch on the drivers side of where the flange is.....close the V notch and reweld to get it out of your way......just thinking out loud.

Go on and put a street ell in the block and try it, the only thing the computer is looking for is the vibration that a "knock" would make. As long as it is in physical contact with the block you will probably be OK.

It doesn't matter any more... I snapped off the sensor flush to the block. So, I'm not installing a sensor as it looks right now. I could put it on the other side but it's in the same location which means it too would be hitting the flange.
