Default 68 seat questions

I've recently gotten my self in to a 68 vert. I like all the little idiosyncrasies of the 68 but sometimes the differences can be challenging to navigate. I've been looking for some seat replacements because one of the previous owners had changed the seats to what looks like seats out of a 70-76. beeing that i haven't seen 68 seats in person because I'm the only person i know with a 68. i was wondering about a few things.

1 I keep seeing the lower latch style is there Two styles of latches for the 68 seats. does the lower latch just refer to a latch not on the middle top of the seat. Or is there a upper and lower position for the release latch on the side of the seat. and how does all this pertain to early vs late style etc. the more info the better. pictures help.

2 I have seen this chrome device on the front of some of the 68 seats in pictures what is this. http://i1161.photobucket.com/albums/...etteseats1.jpg

3 where is and what type of latch does the 69 seats have because i might source a set of them if i cant find a set of 68's(not a likely choice thought)

thanks guys, and I'm counting on my Fellow 68 guys and gals out there to help me out.

Hello - Welcome to the Forum and the '68 club. Check out the C3 parts for sale/wanted section. There is an early '68 seat (lower latch) for sale with pictures. Is your '68 an early or late model??? BK3

Early 68, up to about serial number 25,200, had the lower latches. They were moved higher for easier accessibility after that. (Mine are early and tough to get at).

The seats pictured look like they may be 69's with the stainless on the front. I believe it's for the seat belts after serial # 9745 in 69 but someone with a 69 can chime in on that. 69's would have the higher latch.
Headrests were optional in 68 and standard on 69.

This.

Also....

The chrome device is the newer place to hang the seat belt buckle. As opposed to a cup in the e-brake cover.
As far as I know, they didn't appear until 1969.

Hey guys thanks for the words of wisdom. I think I was just thinking about it to hard. Got it all figured out now. Here are some picks for anyone who stumbles across this tread wondering the same thing. (that being if anyone could possibly be a dumb as I with this.)

Upper

Lower

Early and late seat backs refers to the position of the seat back release latch. It's down on the bottom of the seat back on early cars and higher up on the seast back for later cars. 68 and 69 seats do not have release buttons on the top middle of the seat backs. Those came later.

68s did not use the seat belt clips.

These are 68:

I put a set of black leather '82 seats in my '68 and was done with it.
My '68 seat frames were SO bad that I couldn't give them away here....
I like the later seats much better anyway....
