Default 1972 LT1 Push Rod Guide Plates

I purchased a car in pieces and am getting ready to assemble the engine. I noticed that the heads did not have push rod guide plates. Did this engine have push rod guide plates? Would it be wise to install them in the heads?
Thanks in advance.
Jim

I think there were 3 different heads that were on 72 LT1s depending on the build date. What are your head's casting numbers.

Do you have screw in rocker arm studs or pressed in rocker arm studs?

It is my understanding all LT-1s had the guide plates. Ditto for L-82s.

Sorry, can't find any info on that number.

Installing guides would be a good idea.

As far as what I have ever known, I am 99.9 % sure you are mistaken.

The "8" in the 3978487 X is indeed a "3"

1. poor casting, lines arent crisp as they should be
2. corrision
3. time for glasses

if they are 7/16 studs, someone has put larger big block style studs in the heads, for most small blocks they should be 3/8

the Brodix Track 1's on my 302 have 7/16 but that is not standard issue...

[QUOTE=BOSTONCAMARO;1580718502]As far as what I have ever known, I am 99.9 % sure you are mistaken.

I will also answer your following quote. They are 3/8 studs with 7/16 threaded base.
If I really try hard, I can make the 8 look like a 3. I am sure you are correct, that the number is 3973487.
As I just turned 70, probably any amount of glasses won't help..
So, did the 72 LT1 come with guide plates. I have a lot of manuals, but none of them show plates.
I used to stock car race these engines that I had modified back in the early to mid 70's. I wish I had some of those parts. Its been a long time since I played with these motors, but it is coming back to me. After that we went to .125 over 454s.
Basically, I have a numbers matching car that I want to restore. Mild street use at the most.
Thanks for your help. I may need more advise as time goes on.
Jim

Those are good heads for sure and the studs are commonly referred to as 3/8 studs, just so you know, sounds like you will have a lot of fun with your car....be a nice driver that will also have a good amount of originality to it!
