Default Lifting the body ?

I lifted the body up about a foot today but was not happy how the back was up higher then the front. Could someone share a picture or explain were the liffting straps should be?

Thanks,
Danny

You might try contacting "texaswilkins" here on the forum. His body is about to be put back on the frame.... He has a thread in here about his car ....

I had straps at the front and rear of my doors on my vert... Used engine hoist and lifted straight up... Rear went up and front pointed down at a 45 degree angle... I lifted the front end up high enough for a couple of folks to push the frame out from underneath the body... Then, moved dolly under and lowered down on the dolly... Was the scariest hour of my life as the car rested on the straps at that 45 degree angle until I could drop it on the dolly... The front is definitely a little heavier (with a long nose to boot) than the rear (especially with a vert)... It's doable, but very nerve racking....

I had the same problem, my suggestion is grab a sand bag or some dumbbells and put them in the storage area and try to level it out.

I had the same problem when I started to lift. I set the body back down and tied several knots in the front lift straps to shorten them and lifted again. I had a lot less tilt to the front

I bought a cradle to spread the load out away from the body and help pull the body up straight and level.

I first made one out of 2x4's when I did my car but didnt like the stress on it. I only used the 2x4 one to spread the straps NOT support the weight like the cradle below is doing. I also used my cherrypicker but that was just too nerve racking. You can see my other contraption on my car in my avatar picture.

The pictures below are my buddies car using my cradle and gantry crane in his garage. We didn't have time to shorten and re-weld the gantry crane so we just put the cross beam up in his attic and made temporary holes in the ceiling for the legs. My garage ceiling is about a foot or two lower than his so the cradle also allows me to shorten the straps by coiling them over the cradle arms to the height I need.

As your lifting the car help it come up level in the front and back. It seems that the lift straps will take whatever set you give them if you allow it to tilt one way or the other. Keeping it level during the first stages of the initial pull will get it level like in my picture.

And the rear of the body is way heavier on a convertible if your top and such is still inthe car. Take out everything you can before lifting even the headlight buckets, seats battery etc.

I used the ratchet type straps and this helped in leveling but I also had a strap to the nose. Be sure to support the front as there isn't very much holding it on once it's off the body mounts. I pulled it by myself so it's no big deal but be extra sure that you have everything disconnected especially the ground straps at the rear drivers side by the gas tank and the one near the number two motor mount.
