Which luggage rack for T-tops
Hey I know this has been talked about, but I really want to put my t-tops on my luggage rack.
I know that there are 6 hole racks, and 8 hole racks. Then there is a if memory serves me correctly and 15 1/4 and a 14 1/4 luggage rack as well.
My luggage rack does NOT have the places for clips on the sides so does that mean I can not put the T-Top carrier on?
So is there a Special T-Top carrier luggage rack? I have the 6 hole rack, is there a 6 hole luggage rack that will carry the T-Tops?
Why did they not make ONE LUGGAGE RACK!!!!????

edit: Nope it won't work...it say use with 8 hole rack with pins only!

I was thinking this one, corvette america sells it, as do other venders, Zip etc.. you can , if you want, give your rack the alignment holes, but there are other ways to make this work

The 8 vs 6 post doesn't seem to matter
The pins were supposed to keep the brackets from moving on the racks and also to make it easier to put them in the right place so your not trying to move them while lining up the t-top.
Because of the shape of the tops, if the brackets slid, the strap would loosen.
The brackets have the ends dipped in rubber so they are not very likely to slip, but could.
There was a fellow making custom brackets that had additional bits added that eliminated the need for the pins (basically an extra tab that hooked onto the front or rear of the rack)
I tried to track him down last year and he seems to have dropped off the face of the planet
Mine is a stainless with no pins, I bought a set of the repro's brackets and after I was done bending them to get the to fit decent I added a couple of stainless strips to catch the front/rear edges of the rack (as stated above, might have been fine but I'm paranoid).

When GM sold the luggage rack t-top carriers they included a tit kit.. Hard to say without laughing...
The kit consisted of a small tube and a screw... This was done so that people with six hole racks could use the carriers and safely install them.
This alone tells everyone that GM indeed included all cars with racks when they made the carriers. The nipples do not come with the current reproduction carriers nor do the plastic tubes. Yes that is an original tit kit... and it is not for sale.. Sorry... but one could make it very easy.
You can read more on the Luggage Racks at this link. It's old.. but the info is still good and on a sad note... the fella I mention in this has since passed....
