Default Best place to buy a replacement AC compressor

OK, gotta start somewhere and AC is going to be pretty important very soon so I am looking for advice on who has the best price on a replacement R4 for my 81. I tried recharging and can now see the green dye without the blacklight plus it is making noise.

I kinda have the same problem. But since I live in Canada, I'm going with the Two Ninety-Five air conditioning system.

That is, two windows down at ninety-five kilometers per hour.

There are several vendors on the forum that I am sure would be willing to assist you.

Does it really get that hot in Kentucky? Where I'm at gets in the 90's frequently during the summer but it's the humidity that's a real a$$ kicka! Funny, I just removed the AC from my car. I'm 78SilverCam, tops off windows down and let it rip.

You just described Ky. weather. All is well as long as you are moving!

I have three in the clearance section... http://willcoxcorvette.com/product_i...ducts_id=27275. Use the sale code and you'll get this at an extra good price. Ignore the core charge too... it's waived.

Hey Willcox, I'd be very interested in one of those and the manifold hoses that bolt to it for a 79 but its normally the freight on heavy items that kills me, what do you think you could ship those two items to Brisbane Australia for ? (I dont care if it comes by carrier pidgeon on steroids so express freight is not important).

Oh and Donjack, check your manifold hoses, they may look good (mine did) but under blacklight they were leaking too around the aluminum crimp fittings.

Thanks, Dennis.

Does anybody know how the Willcox compressor compares with the Sanden compressor besides being 40% less?

Wilcox sells the right a/c unit for your C3 , whichever one it needs, the sanden never came on a C3 and requires adaption mounts , hoses, etc. to work.if the interest is converting to 134 from R12, wilcox also sells a kit for that and you can keep your stock A/C. Hope this helps.

Thanks oldalaskaman, thanks for the info. My system has been converted to the 134 years ago. I am about to start replacing some things on the A/C unit and at the moment, don't know if the compressor is good or not. Even though my car is a 76, it has the smaller compressor like Willcox is showing.

something I've learned , also having a 76 , is there are early and late versions, mine has the older version a/c unit.

wow.. the site will do the USPS shipping.. but even if I sent it by Sub.... it will be high. Another issue.. the manufacturer of the correct hose's.. Well from what I understand, he had an issue with keeping his ***** in the right place. The bitter half took more than half and now he's out....

So I suppose I'd better make sure which hoses I still have in stock because from what I understand it's gonna be a while before we see them again.

76 was the split year... early used A6 (long) and late used the R4 (short)..

Sanden is an entirely different compressor than what was used on the C3 cars. I'm not even sure a Sanden will mount on the stock brackets....

But.. I will say this.. it is by far (newer technology) a better compressor. Mounting it will be a chore considering all the brackets will be different. I just don't know enough about converting a C3 to a Sanden...
