Just finishing up the restoration of my '76 when I noticed someone had jacked the car up under the radiator and bent it all to heck. Anyway, am replacing it now and just got it removed. Here's the question, the old radiator is considerably lighter than the new one. I bought the new one from Willcox. The old one was the original radiator that had been recored several years back. The new one was made in China. Any ideas?
According to the wife, my new Willcox radiator was delivered this morning. I'm at the office now, but once they free me I'll try to get back and let you know how much heavier/lighter the new one is.
I plan to take oldalaskaman's advice and put it in and have fun for now, no project is ever done, but I want this one on the road sooner than later!
Sadly Mike, the imported radiators are the only ones with the correct lower neck... They work great and they'll have no problems from them.
The new Delco version has the wrong one as does the radiator made off shores and sold under US radiator label. AZ and other parts stores carry one as well, but just as mentioned above they have the wrong lower neck and it can't be installed.
Plenty of problems with the old 'original'. Mostly visible corrosion, no leaks yet, and didn't have overheating problems 4 years ago...but...global warming. Or maybe just more horsepower...who knows .
The new one looks fine, everything in the right place *shrug* Install will be 'soon'.
To the OP's question, the new radiator seems to be the same weight as the one that I removed.
Willcox, The lower hose attachment is a different shape from the one I removed but I have no information about A-Arm clearance yet and the originality of the old one is a complete unknown. As you might guess, I'll let you know if there are problems
