Electrical question
I have my new autometer gauges in the console and wired up ready to go my question is what do I do with the two wires that were going to the old amp gauge do I splice them togther or what.

If you are not using them, I assume you have a volt meter now, just tape up the old connector so it cannot ground on anything behind the dash. Don't splice the wires together.

yep I have a volt gauge but dosent it have to charge through the amp gauge

Is your voltmeter wired in or are asking if you can use the ammeter wires for the voltmeter ?
Your voltmeter doesn't need the ammeter.

Your voltmeter doesn't need the ammeter.
yers I have the volt meter wired in but dosent the car have to charge through the 2 amp gauge plugs

No the amp gauge circuit is a parallel circuit, I'll find you a diagram Sixfooter made that will explain.

so all I need to do is tape it off to prevent it from shorting out somewhere

Thanks Roger now all I have to figure out is why I have no instrument lights and I can put it all back togther

Remember the INST fuse is in between the inst lights and the HL switch. The inst fuse is only hot when the HL switch is on.

I can turn my headlights on and I have everything except my instrument lights, I have even run a ground directly back to the battery and checked them like that with no luck

Does your tiny INST fuse have power when the HL switch is on ?
