Default Need help identifying seat backs

I purchased some used (allegedly original) seat backs off ebay. The description was 78 - 81. My car is at the shop so it was not available to inspect and match them up but I assumed the ad was accurate. When I got the seat backs delivered, they are totally not incorrect.

I contacted the seller and he swears they are off a 78 Pace Car. Can anyone tell me if the Pace Car had different seats and that is why they are different??? Here are pics of what I bought and what is on the car. Also, another quesiton I have is at the top of my seat is an open hole. What is that?

Thanks gents...

Bottom pic is the standard C3 leather seat - - the hole in the middle should be the button you press to release the seat back to tilt forward.

The top photo is indeed the later model seat - - the style with a higher tilt point used on pace car and subsequent years to `82. Those seatbacks are not what is used on your car, but they were accurately represented to you by the seller.

THANKS CORT, appreciate the information. Guess I have to look for a new set of seat backs and place the silver ones for sale. 40.00 plus shipping if anyone is interested. That is what I paid for them.

The seat backs you purchased are indeed for use on a 78 Pace Car, and also all 79-82 Corvettes.

You need 70-78 (78 regular, non Pace Car), Corvette seat backs. 68 and 69 backs are different, but the 70-78's are interchangeable.

You can get new repro 70-78 seat backs from all of the Corvette vendors, for around $40-45 each.

Just a FYI, the replacement backs that the vendors sell are thinner & light weight. Nothing like the original. Mine split after a short time.

Get original if you can, scuff them up, and then paint.

There are 2 or 3 companies making the seat backs. The ones from Keen Parts are a lot better, and closer to OEM, than the others on the market.
