drove mine to work today
for the first time in a couple months. perfect weather in the mid Atlantic made for a nice, if expensive vs the hondabox 100mi round trip commute.
after a full interior and wiring cleanup including fiero seats i was itchin to drive it. did some short runs over the past week to check for problems; alls good so off i went.
here she is in our gated lot at IAD
heres a couple of the seats and interior
found tons of help here through these projects, and almost always found my answers usin the neglected lil search button
thx again for a wonderful resource

I think someone stole your radio
Seriously though, looks good. The trip might have cost more in fuel but I'lll still bet it was a better drive

thx! everyone. still tryin to decide what components im gonna use for the stereo. was planning on:
alpine CDE-HD138BT
CDT CL 62 Pros w the 6.5s in the kicks, tweets in the dash, and upstages on the ws pillars somewhere
CDTS 8" sub in the jack box.
kenwood or mtx 4ch amp
the wirings done for this setup already, but i may add a second set of 6.5s in the back. just not sure yet.
ill take some better pix of the interior, i was able to reuse all the panels etc exc the shifter console and gauge bezel, these were too far gone. 3 cans of SEM and all new stainless sheet metal screws, finishing washers, and clipnuts. both dashpads had the screw holes wallowed out and cracked from using the wrong screws, the finishing washers while not original make everything look nice. New willcox carpet, dynamat(mixed w some of the cheaper alternatives), reflectix from the firewall back to the front of the seats, sealed every hole in the firewall, and went over the heater box carefully making sure every heater postion worked and sealed correctly. no heat in the seating area now, so i deleted my heater core shutoff valves.
was able to save my door panels as well, replaced the inner and outer felts, and added the armrest protectors. i did add one screw to the drivers panel to pull it in better.

seats were from an 86 i believe. mr mikes kit was fantastic. seats are a bit higher than the originals, but the padding in them had turned to that nasty orange dust.

I don't want to be too forward, but I like to see people get their money's worth if they are buying car audio. I would hazard a guess that you like quality sound from your system, so I would recommend upgrading to a Pioneer DEH-80PRS if you can live without HD and Satellite Radio, and your budget allows. The Pioneer can't be beaten for it's sound quality and equalizer. Though you might want something better than a Kenwood or Mtx amp to do the CDT's justice.

Great choice in speakers.

thx! ill take any advice or opinions on the stereo. ive never done any more than best buy specails, but i want this one to be nice. i was thinkin about the kenwood xr4s, mainly due to its small size vs output. what amps would u consider for this setup? would u stick w just the kicks only or add the rears? seems the SQ guys say dont use the rears, but ive been in kevins car and w the fronts only on it was a bit weak.

Personally I like to feel that I'm immersed in the music by having it come from all around, so I run front and rear stage with the necessary sub stage to bring out what most people never hear in their music.
The CDT's are amazing quality for the price you pay. To bring your system in at $1000, I'd suggest 2 pairs of the CL-S60A Classics for $220. Their 8" subs are "meh" at best for the price. I'd point you in the direction of Sundown Audio SA8v.2 ($185). You'll want a DVC4ohm to wire to a 2ohm load on the amp.
Amplifiers are subjective to the persons definition of "sound quality". The Kenwood you're looking at is great, but you really don't need to match the RMS ratings of the speakers and amp. Those CDT's would scream on as little as 60-80wrms. Since you are also wanting a sub, I'd suggest a 3 or 5 channel amp to save on space and money. The Kenwood comes in a similar size 5 channel (XR-5S) but is Class D and doesn't sound so great above "normal" listening volumes (Ie: when you want to ).
I'd say Boston Acoustics GTA-1005 ($280) or Image Dynamics i5800 ($370).
And a Pioneer DEH-P8400BH ($170) or Pioneer DEH-80PRS ($350) brings you up around the $1000 mark.
