Default Gas Tank Bladder

Has or is it possible to take out the bladder in a 1975 gas tank and replace it in a new tank? Its not colapsed.

I recall a few years ago this came up and the answer, as I remember, was you 'can' replace the bladder and there link posted for a replacement bladder. I don't recall who that source is, or if they are still around, but maybe a google search?? Or perhaps someone will enlighten us here.

I have replaced my tank and tossed the bladder on my 75 and here's what I found. Yours may be different.

That said, I think you could get the bladder out without tearing it, it is a heavy rubber like material that is hard to handle. You would first have to get the neck piece out of the opening. The neck piece has the nuts that the sender bolts to. Then start to fold and turn it enough to slowly pull it out.

BUT I think it would be a lot easier to get one in IF it was rolled and folded before inserting in the sender hole.

Anyway, not worth the effort in my opinion. All cars before 75 DID NOT have a bladder and they are just fine. If it was such a big concern, someone would be making tanks with bladders for the 75-76 (77?) cars. I not entirely sure but I think the 78+ cars had a different type of bladder.

The bladder can be removed and replaced. I removed the one in my 77 intact and with little difficulty (of course you have to drop the tank first!). I wound up cutting out the neck portion, with the retaining nuts, and not using the remainder because it would not work with my in-tank pump and fabbed hanger and sump for my TPI. If you need help or pictures, Pm me.

PS - The original tank was perfect inside. I painted it with POR15 o/s and used a POR15 tank sealer on the i/s to avoid any future problems

....took the bladder out of the '75 I used to own back in 1994 and it's still this way to this day. I wrote several posts back in the day when I had done it. The bladder was collapsing to the point where I could only get 12gals in the tank. As a matter of fact, I ran out of gas one time going to a cruise-in because part of the collapsing held the float up showing I had 1/2 a tank of fuel!!!

...the tank was mint inside and looked new.

Thanks for the response. The bladder looks in great shape and the tank isn't bad either so, I think I'm just going to clean it up and reuse it with the same tank without taking it out.

Thanks,
Danny
