I am having a problem adjusting my RP from VBP I am having spots that stick or bind when I turn the wheel. Right now on center it is good if I turn the wheel to the left slightly it sticks at 11 o'clock where I can let it go and the car will keep turning, then if I turn it to the right it is smooth but too easy- no resistance.
One thing that is weird under a acceleration it seems to be easer to turn whereas under hard braking the wheels feels heavier.....
I am now playing with that center bolt that holds the centre shaft.
I installed a Rack Attack from VBP on my '74. I had the same issue and it was because the set screws that hold the steering shaft on the steering box were hitting the engine mounting bracket on the frame.

Same for me. A little grinding and a little time-all works nicely. And the steering is SO much better.

I will check but I am almost that the set screws pass, I even gridded them down a bit.... How is the feel though? Is it solid, is it even all around, does it feel like a sports car steering????
I don't have license plates for my '74 yet because I took off the body to clean up the frame and I still have a couple minor things to fix plus get it aligned. I do have a big yard so I have driven it around some and I've had it to around 30 MPH. The yard is to bumpy for me to go faster even though I have the room. I think it feels positive but I think I lost a little bit of turning radius. I'll have to compare it to my '76, which has the original steering setup, sometime.
Did you check to see if your u-joints are binding? I have Steeroids that worked great until I rebuilt my steering column. I went through the Troubleshooting Guide and recognized one of the problems.
Two shaft ends protruded into the u-joint. Adjusting those resulted in an S-curve in the double u-joint no matter how I adjusted the center support eye. I ended up getting a shorter splined shaft directly from Borgeson.
This is not the best image I can get of this area but if you look closely, I also trimmed the drivers motor mount flange to eliminate interferance to the set-screw at that connection. Installed a short set-screw with a lock-nut there too.
After all the requisite adjustments had been made, the handling was markedly more sensitive. I discovered no free play at the steering wheel. The alignment allowed for little to no input to keep the car straight, on a non-crowned road.
I can't swear to it but I think I lost a small amount of turning radius, compared to the recirculating ball setup. Takes a slightly larger circumference to negotiate safely. Need to revisit that portion of the handling and see what options I have.
Otherwise, it's a very secure feeling to control the direction, especially with selected throttle input to influence your line of sight.
