My husband has always wanted a C3 and he always put it off to get me newer cars than what I was currently driving, and after many years of telling him "Honey, you know I really wanted a corvette (not whatever car he got me at that time)" he bought me a C5 corvette, so I figured that it was time to return the favor. He is now the proud (and somewhat) frustrated owner of a 1979 coupe. She's not perfect by all means, we decided to buy a project car, she needs the interior done, body is fine, recent paint, new motor, ran fine until last week...it seems the prior owner had done some "redneck engineering" and ran a wire from the fuse box to the alternator and back into the firewall with regular house electrical wire to bypass ???? we can't figure it out and of course when hubby called him about the response was "I didn't do it"... Oh the joys of buying used cars........
Here are some pics of the newest member to the family:
Gratz, I recently learned about "Bubba" who owns the cars before us too. When shes fixed up ya'll can cruise together though. That'll be more than worth the headache
His and her Corvettes seem to make good sense. Im building a custom C2 and for the past year my wife has brought up my expenses quite often. She now wants a C3 when the C2 is done. I cant wait to question her on her expenses, lol.
Congrats! You must be patient to own a C3...they always need something, but most of all, they need to go to homes without "Bubba" the mecanic wannabe...She will be worth it once you get her all sorted out.
Well done! Enjoy the C3! If you ask me a C3 and a C5 are a sexy pair!
Lot's of help and info available on the C3 tech page. Sounds like the wiring issue may be a case of a hack fix on a fusible link. I would check that out asap!

Good Luck!
Yes they are. I have been reading up on the forum a lot!!! There is a lot of wonderful information on here.....The car is now at a shop that only deals with corvettes and unfortunately they will not be able to get to it until Monday, but that is fine, they suspect that the fuse box went bad as the problem seems to be inside the car and not in the engine compartment, I will know more on Monday. The first "mechanic" that had it for 4 days said they could fix it, even though my husband specifically asked them "can you work on a 1979 Corvette with electrical issues"...their response was "oh yes, we have an electrical technician here" That should of been our first clue to run away fast....long story short, after 4 days, hubby gets a call, they can't work on it because the car is so old that it is not on their computer system and because its not on their computer system they can't pull up the schematic for the car, and their electrical technician.....his job was wiring stereos and speakers. This headache will be worth it once we get the car back.
