It took me best part of sat and Sun but i was all smiles this afternoon when i went for a test drive. I could have done it much quicker but spent the time doing it right once, even stayed off the drink while doing it this time.
My cam was never happy with the 2500 stall i had so i made the leap and went to the 3000 and it loves it. I can now not live in fear of detonation on uphills when lagging like i used too.
I did it all by myself which is all easy except the part of getting the trans back on my jack to get it back up. That part on my back benchpressing a heavy trans is not fun but i cant be bothered asking a mate for help, just rather get it done in my time.
Everything went really well and i took my time to hi-temp seal everything like kickdown, dipstick tube and pan gasket. I put on a B&M deep pan for extra cooling. I dont really like the way the filter bolts on but it works.
Nice! This will be my next projsect. I was actually thinking of having someone do it for me. But since I read this post, I may try it myself. Especially now that I have my ramps built and the car sits 29 inches off the ground. Thanks!

29 inches you will do it no problem. My only tips are before you ramp it up take out as many bellhousing bolts as possible from the top, remove kickdown and remove your dipstick from the tube so it doesnt get hung up. Drain your fluid first as well to save a bit of weight.
Its still a 2 man job to do it easily and more safely then what i did.Hopefully 29 inches is still within reach of your jack otherwise it may get a bit tricky

Yeah been thinking of making a wooden support pedestal for the jack. I already placed in a drain bolt in the pan when I did the shift kit. So that will help also. My ramps are drive-on so I can work while the cars up on them. Thats how I did the cam swap. Any other little things you think of, please advise me on. I won't be attempting this for awhile now. But like to have everything planned in advance. Thanks
This is the cam Scott. I have alot of doubters on this site about this cam but for its size it rips !!! This cam is not in the Vet by the way.The cam doesnt have much lift but lots of overlap and with my combo it really performs. When i put this all together i tried to take the cheap option cause i already had a 2500 stall laying around but it was not enough for this cam. After babying this motor around for 6 months i had enough and put the 3000 in ....its great now.
Its a crane cam and its revving to 6500 with ease.On the highway power starts to generate from about 4000 up.

Nice ramps !! Mate you could sit under there and have a cup of tea !! With that much height you can certainly afford to make a timber platform for your jack. I did not have the clearance to do it so im jealous how easy it should be for you.
Other advice i can give you is while your trans is out is to silastic your dipstick thoroughly especially on the entire shaft where the o-ring sits.I dont ever rely on that 0-ring to do the job so i lather it up good and proper. put the bolt through the hole on the bellhousing to hold it in place and let it go solid for 24 hours before moving it. same goes for your kickdown.
Also is it just me or do the cork pan gaskets always seem to become saturated and eventually ooze fluid out. I think the neoprene or similar ones from suppliers like moroso are worth their weight in gold. I even use a thin bead of red on both sides of the gasket...I hate trans leaks
On the trans, I agree 100% about the cork gaskets. I also used the "red" stuff. Hate tranny leaks. Will keep you in mind when I eventually get to the job. Good luck with your ride. Sounds like you finally woke up the monster that was hiding in your motor. LOL.
