Multiply all that time by the shops hourly rate, then add in all the chemicals and it adds up very quickly.
Exactly, John. Assuming your going to use good, quality paint (and I can't imagine why you wouldn't), you're easily going to spend $2000 or more just in materials. Probably more. When I consider all the time he (Randy) had to put in to make my car look the way it does now, I did indeed get a deal.

The shop that did my 69 was Marklein Autobody in Dodgeville, WI.

I can say the paint job was perfect and they really care about their customers. They do a lot of work for the Vintage race car scene and have done some very high dollar cars. You would not be disappointed with their work.

I did all the repair work, priming etc, so all they had to do was a quick final prime and top coats.

His personal perference of doing things. I guess.

Useful info? You didn't give him any at all. You only made a condescending remark as i have seen you do in another thread. Everyone knows how to search. But when you search, you don't always find the answer you are looking for. This is why there is nothing wrong with people asking similar questions over and over. Its keeps things current. As with other repeat topics, this one seems to be providing great new information. To the original poster... I appologize for jacking your thread. Just annoying to see a stick in the mud trying to stop so many great Corvette enthusiasts from answering your question.

I must be doing something wrong as I searched for paint and body shops near Milwaukee and the most recent thread was 2007. Maybe you can let us know how you find these threads about where members recommended business to take Corvettes for paint work.

Can't get anyone here to disassemble trim, emblems, grills, headlamps, lenses, handles, key holes etc......

Then strip everything off / sand to bare glass prep / & prime for $3,000 ..............

Paint & materials will cost you $1,000 +

I would suspect a NCRS GOLD quality paint job is 20K . ?

Classic cars are so expensive to restore today and sell for so much less than most folks spend to make their dream come true , its nearly a given ...... its now about "LOVE" of the car , like horseback riding or boating has always been , a huge money pit, you spend the money and enjoy your dream car..... to me thats what its all about ...having fun.......relax people .
