Default Looking for exhaust

I will be getting Hedman long tube headers 3" collector and most likely Magnaflow mufflers. I cant seem to find a decent set of 2.5" pipes. CC has the entire set but it comes with tight tuck headers (dont need those).

Any recommendations for a set of 2.5 pipes that will fit without mods to crossmember? Is stainless steel worth the extra $$$? Please share links or vendors.

Thanks

I do not think anyone makes a "direct fit" set of pipes to bolt up to long headers. Most everyone that has long headers has had a exhaust shop bend a section of pipe to connect them.

Look at Allens pipes, I've heard good things about them.

I have a set of brand new magna flow mufflers still in the boxes. 2 1/2 inch. I bought these for my 80 and will not be using them. $150 shipped.

Any experience with the Pypes kit?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PYE-SCC12/

I read a lot of older threads about major fitting problems in the front and back. Anyone bought/installed these recently? Maybe the fit issues have been resolved/improved?

Thanks

I bought a set of pipes fronmAllen's at Carlise one year on sale, stainless, 2.5 in.. Then I went to put them on a few years later, did not even come close to fit, called him, said it was the mufflers I was trying to use, bought his mufflers, still did not even come close, called him asked for refund,NO way he said, I had waited too long to put the pipes on the car before finding out they don't fit. WELL, they did not fit then, how would they fit if I put them on when I bought them?? I would not recommend them even for a VW owner to put their products on their car.(sorry for any VW owners looking in).

The Pypes set with the racing mufflers fit OK. Yeah I spent some time tweaking. The X pipe and racing mufflers significantly reduced noise in the cabin compared to true dual with turbo mufflers. I got them for a really good price retail through Google shopping. Considering that the vette is a grocery getter and occasional street n strip bracket racer, I'm happy with the Pypes product.

what you need is a exhaust tubing bender and someone who knows how to use the machine....you will never be able to piece an exhaust system over the counter with parts from different header companies....If it was a stock system you could buy the right direct fit pipes at different places......but never with a set of headers in front

your best bet is a muffler shop if you insist on using headers....there is an alternative available at some parts stores...the flexible exhaust tubing available in many different ID sizes....except it will most assuring look like hell

Yes, Im aware of the fact that the tube going to the headers will either be too long, too short or off to the side but what Im most concerned with is what I see people saying about some of these systems (like Pypes) and the Xpipe not being leveled or the back pipe no lining up with the mufflers, etc. I can deal with 1 modification going into the headers but if I have to adjust/bend every part then Ill pass.

Check out this one from Magnaflow:

http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/d...rtnumber=16841

The 16842 system has the downturn exhaust tips.

You will have to custom fabricate something from the header to the rest of the system no matter what system you buy. You can probably cut up the front pipes from the Magnaflow system to mate up to the header. That's what I did for my system.

Sound like a good decision for someone who does not want to put the time and money into doing the job or having some one else do it.

Maybe you should forget the headers and just install 2 1/2" duals. You will still need to do a little work on fitment.

I used the magnaflow system PN 16842. That set is for a '74 I think. All stainless and 2.5". Allen's did not have a 2.5", X-pipe system for my car.

I have a '76 and I did not put the cat back on the car. The pipes required just a few mods at the headers. This set is for manifolds so I had them cut the downpipes to fit my setup. The pipes go through the crossmember with no mods. I have put 1000+ miles on the car and there are no hot spots or banging. I love this system.

Whole system:

After mounting:

I had my muffler shop put in the system. They tucked in in tight and it works very well. I belive they charged me $140 to do it. It feels like I gained 20+hp from this mod alone. I can now chirp the tires on the 1-2 upshift and could not do that before with the stock setup.

Good Luck.
